Our King Scholastic Book Fair will run from Wednesday, August 28 - Tuesday September 3 in the King Library.

The winner of the Golden Skate is Mrs. Nelson’s 2nd grade class! Mrs. Nelson’s class had the highest attendance at our Back to School Skate Night last night. 👏🏼 Congratulations! 🎉

If you missed coming to this skate night, don’t worry! There will be another skate night on November 21st!

The safety of your child and all children in our schools as well as the safety of the school staff and support personnel is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures. On Friday we practiced all of our drills and will be conducting various drills throughout the remainder of this year. We practice four primary emergency drills each year. They are “FIRE DRILLS”, “SECURE/HOLD DRILL”, “LOCKDOWN DRILLS”, and “SHELTER-IN-PLACE DRILLS”. Each type of drill is explained below.

FIRE DRILLS
The school will conduct a “fire drill” each month that school is in session. This is a Fire Code requirement as well as a requirement for all Colorado public schools. We want each student to understand and be aware of the importance of this drill and not be afraid when the fire alarm is sounded. By practicing they will know what to do and how to do it.

SECURE/HOLD DRILLS

The school will conduct one “Secure/Hold Drill” per quarter throughout each school year. This is business as usually in the building. Doors are to remain locked. To enable everyone to remain safe, no one will be allowed to enter the building or leave the building until the drill is completed.

LOCKDOWN (“LOCKS, LIGHTS, OUT of SIGHT”) DRILLS
The school will conduct one “Lockdown Drill” per quarter throughout each school year. This type of drill will secure the school building and safely shelter all students, staff, and visitors inside the building. The purpose of this drill is to keep the students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During a “lockdown drill” all of the perimeter doors to the school building will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed. Students will remain in their classrooms with classroom doors locked and lights off. To enable everyone to remain safe, no one will be allowed to enter the building or leave the building until the drill is completed.

SHELTER-IN-PLACE DRILLS
The school will conduct one “Shelter-in-Place” drill per quarter throughout each school year. The purpose of this drill is to be prepared to move to a safe location within the building in case of severe weather or tornados.

Please remember that these safety practice drills are done to help maintain our schools as a safe place to learn and work. If you have any questions regarding any of these Safety Drills or other safety concerns, please contact me.

Students must maintain an attendance rate above 90%.

To excuse your student, please call 719-328-6000.

Students who are tardy to class must have a pass to enter the classroom.

If your student is going to be out of town for an extended absence, please make sure to fill out the Pre-Arranged Absence Form a week in advance if possible.

Our Health room could use some clothing donations. Specifically, we could really use some size 10-14 pants, shirts, and jackets and boys K-1 clothes.

King Elementary is looking for a Crossing Guard for after school. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Krueger, tammy.krueger@d11.org

Please have your student arrive between 7:20 and 7:40 if they are eating breakfast. The door to the left of the preschool/kinder playground is open from 7:20-7:45. Students who arrive later are never turned away but they are missing classroom activities to pick up and eat their breakfast. Thank you for getting your student here as close to 7:20 as possible.

Even though school meals are now free, if you qualify for free or reduced lunch, please fill out the application, anyway. ***It can provide additional benefits to you and your school in the form of fee waivers, additional school funding, and Summer-EBT Benefits.***

King Open House and PTA BBQ is Thursday, August 29th from 5-7. Enjoy the PTA Sponsored Back to School BBQ with your family from 5-5:45pm. Teacher classroom presentations will be at 6:00-6:20pm and 6:30-6:50pm. This is a great way to get to know the King community and find out what your child will be doing in class.

PTA is welcoming new members. Our first meeting of the year will be held on September 9 from 6-7pm! We'd love to have you join this team of parents and teachers in person or virtually to support our students at King. Email kingd11pta@gmail.com for more information.

PTA Safety Town is Friday, September 6th (during school hours) for Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Students will participate in exploring Safety Town while learning about pedestrian safety. More information will be sent home soon to kindergarten and 1st grade parents.

FIrst PTA Meeting of the school year is Monday, September 9 at 6pm in the mini gym. Come join us to discuss all of the exciting things PTA has planned for the school year. We would love to hear your ideas!

PTA Restaurant Fundraiser Night is Wednesday, September 18th from 4-8pm at Noodles on Montebello. Please come out and enjoy dinner at Noodles while also supporting King PTA.

Saturday, October 26th is the King PTA Fall Festival. You won't want to miss this fun-filled day! More information will be sent home closer to the event.

We want to help you stay connected and engaged with King Elementary School and The Colorado Springs School District 11 this school year. We must have updated information on file so you receive every crucial communication through email, phone calls, text messages, App alerts, social media, or all of the above! You want to receive emergency communications, inclement weather announcements, opportunities for your student, and other important messages from King and the District. To do this, you must verify/update your contact information in PowerSchool (Parent Portal) AND opt-in to certain communication methods via The Loop (Mass Communication Platform).

Learn about the important ways we can stay connected below and please log in to update information and complete important registration forms.

• Contains parent and student rights documents, media opt-out forms, the demographics of the student, parent info, emergency contact info, grades, bus schedules, etc.

• If your contact information is not up to date in PowerSchool you will not receive important communications via email or phone

HOW TO LOG INTO POWERSCHOOL TO VERIFY/UPDATE INFORMATION

• Select the PowerSchool Parent Portal Icon.

• Log in using the Username and Password emailed to you.

• Click on the link for the ACPS Back to School Forms (2024-2025) on the left side of the navigation menu.

• If you can't remember your login credentials, please contact the school’s front office.

• After you initially login to PowerSchool on the website, you can download and use the App. Search ‘PowerSchool’ in your Apple or Android App Store and log in with your credentials emailed to you.

• Before using the PowerSchool App or logging into the Parent Portal, you must create a PowerSchool Parent account in a web browser, if you haven’t already...

• Click here to set up your Parent Portal account.

• You will need the access ID and password for each child. If you haven't received your login information, contact the school to receive an access ID and password.

• Guardians MUST SUBSCRIBE to The Loop by logging onto the platform and selecting how they want to be contacted

• Guardians are not automatically enrolled in The Loop at registration

• Peachjar
• Peachjar is a digital bulletin board that unites schools, families, and the community. It eliminates the need for paper flyers and ensures that information about community programs and events gets home.
• All parents or guardians with an email address on file with the District will automatically be registered to receive digital flyers from their school through peachjar. Community-based organizations submit flyers for approval, and once approved, parents or guardians can access them anytime, anywhere, and share them with family or friends.
• The District generally posts new flyers on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Parents may unsubscribe via a link on the digital flyers if they wish.
