The Board Bulletin January 2024

The Bulletin is published monthly following the voting meeting of the Board. The Bulletin is designed for informational purposes to keep the West York Area School District Community informed of Board happenings and is not intended as an official record of meetings. The Board would like to invite the community to a public meeting on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 7 p.m., at the West Manchester Township Building to learn more about the proposed WYASD Athletic Fields Project. Community members can see the plans and meet design team members, School Board Directors, and District Administration.

• The meeting was called to order by President Lynn Kohler.
• The minutes from the January 9, 2024, Board Work Session were approved.
  
• Dr. Davies recognized the Board for School Director Recognition Month and presented each Director with a certificate of appreciation. The Building Principals presented each Director with a gift on behalf of all of their buildings, and Mr. Jeff Ludwig presented each Director with a pen holder created by the High School Tech Ed department.
• A community member spoke during Public Comment about neighborhood safety.
• The Board took action on selecting a candidate to fill the seat vacated by Director Margetas. The successful candidate was Mr. Brian Siatkowski. Mr. Siatkowski will be sworn in at the February 13, 2024, Work Session*. President Kohler thanked the other candidates for their time and interest in the seat and encouraged them to run in the next election.
• Ms. Sheri Schlemmer, CFO, presented a preview of the 2024-25 Budget.
• Action was taken on the following items:

• INA Contract for Supplemental Security Services
• Local Audit Fiscal Year Ending 2023
• LIU 12 Agreements
• LIU 12 2024-25 Budget
• McDaniel College Affiliation Agreement

• Personnel Items

• Monthly Financial Statements
• Informational Reports, including the monthly enrollment report and district rentals, were shared.
• Other matters included a brief discussion regarding the Raptor App.
• President Kohler adjourned the meeting.

*Note that this was published as of the Board Meeting on the 16th. Mr. Siatkowski will be sworn in prior to February 13, 2024, so that he can begin his Board service as soon as possible.

• President Kohler called the meeting to order and announced that an Executive Session was held prior to the meeting to discuss personnel and legal matters.

• President Kohler called for a moment of reflection for our Board as we move into January, which is School Director Recognition Month.
  

• The minutes from the November 21, 2023 meeting of the Board were approved.

• Committee Reports:

• Note that internal committee minutes are attached to the Work Session agenda in the month following the committee meeting.
• Internal Committees:
• Budget and Finance Committee - Treasurer Gettys indicated that information would be shared at next week's Board Meeting about the 2024-25 Budget.
• Cocurricular Committee - Vice President Rice reported that the members of the Cocurricular Committee will serve as a subcommittee for hiring head coaches for interview purposes.
• Educational Programming Committee - Director Herman reported about the EPC Meeting to include 2024-25 Course Selection Guides, academic program impacts since 2017-2018, and Instructional Leader training.
• Facilities Committee - President Kohler reported that a meeting was held on Monday, January 8th, to review plans for the Athletic Fields Project.
• Foundation for the WYASD - Director Myers reported that there would be a reorg meeting on January 27th, and they are looking at hiring an executive director. He also mentioned that Casino Night is scheduled for March 22, 2024.
• CEC Committee - Director Shope noted that there would be a meeting next week, January 16th, prior to the Board Meeting.
• Wellness Committee - No report.
• External Committees and Boards:
• West Manchester Township Recreation Committee - No report.
• York County School of Technology - Director Harlacher - No report.
• York County School of Technology Authority - Vice President Rice reported that officers were reelected for the Authority, and preliminary discussion was held about the expansion of the Tech Center.
• York Adams Academy - Director Herman reported that winter graduation will be held on January 24th.
• York/LIU Joint Authority and LIU Board of Directors - Treasurer Gettys reported that new officers were elected for the LIU Board, and he was elected President. No meeting for the Authority.
