Discovery Primary Update
April 1, 2022
A Message From the Principal
Each year in the fall Discovery staff members plant daffodil bulbs in the front of the school. These flowers signify "new beginnings" for us. We know when our bulbs are blooming we will be meeting our goals and our hard work will be paying off. This year the beginning of the bloom was right at the beginning of our conferences where we were able to celebrate great growth students are making.
We are just wrapping up our month long literacy celebration. During the last week of the festival, students all chose a book to take home in our “used books for new homes” event. Most of our books were found on the Great Book Hunt. The March Madness - Battle of the Books was a lot of rousing fun. Reading to students daily is a strategy that helps students become strong readers. Reading the same book on repeated occasions can help students develop fluency and comprehension. Ask your child about The Day the Crayons Quit, The Book with No Words, and Dragons Love Tacos. These were the stand out books this year.
Welcome spring! We have some great fun events planned this month. Please read below for more information.
Spring here we come!

Counselor Corner
Counselor Corner: During the month of April, the counseling classroom lesson focuses on friendship. All students will be learning about good friendship behaviors and those that are not so good. Here are some examples:
Good Friendship Behaviors: helping, encouraging, moving on after an argument, playing together, taking turns, and listening to each other
Not So Good Friendship Behaviors: telling others what to do, constantly yelling/arguing with each other, making fun of others, and ignoring each other
Want to start more conversations about friendships at home? Try these tips/tricks
Ask your child what it means to be a good friend.
Ask your child what they did today (or this week) to be a good friend.
Talk with your child about what they can do if someone isn’t being a good friend. This might include Kelso’s Choices.
Read some children’s books about friendships. Helpful Book Link
