From the Principal
October is Bullying Awareness Month and we all play a role in creating a positive and respectful environment. This month serves as a powerful reminder to be more mindful of our words and actions and understand the profound impact they can have on those around us. It’s an opportunity for everyone—students, parents, and staff alike—to reflect on the importance of kindness, empathy, and standing up against bullying in all its forms. Let's be inspired by these values and motivated to make a difference in our community.
Raising awareness is about recognizing when someone may need support and taking steps to promote a culture where everyone feels safe and valued. We empower families to have open, honest conversations about bullying, its effects, and how we can all contribute to making our school a welcoming space. Let’s use this month to heighten our awareness and recommit to treating each other with respect.
Substitutes Needed
We continue to look for additional substitute teachers. Please share with anyone interested. Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. $130 per day for the first 15 days/ $135 after. The form is available online at www.dupageroe.org.

Please include in the email their name, rank/branch of service, and relation to Winfield student (for example, grandfather of ____, aunt of ____, etc) so that we can properly identify them on the slideshow. Primary Team Scoop
Our second graders finished a language arts unit called “Plants and Animals in Their Habitats”. Each student chose a habitat to research and then write about as well as to create a diorama. We celebrated with a habitat showcase which gave them a chance to see their classmates’ work and provide positive comments about what they learned from each other. Great job, second graders!
Intermediate Team News
This week in third grade, students learned about how adaptations help animals to survive. They also practiced comparing and contrasting different animal adaptations. Fourth graders are learning about the different parts of a story--the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. They are also exploring different types of figurative language and identifying them in texts they are reading, In fifth grade, students began learning how to solve expressions involving decimals. They also discussed the Law of Conservation of Matter and applied it to explain different situations.
Middle School Stories
Tomorrow the Middle School will hold an Incentive Assembly and Pep Rally. We will recognize the Volleyball and Soccer teams for all their hard work this season. We will talk about the value of participation in our upcoming Boys Basketball and Cheerleading seasons, as well as supporting those students who are performing in the band concert on Monday, October 28th. SLT announce their latest news, and the results from the Walk to School Day. Finally, we have a fun game to play to close out before a nice three and a half day weekend!
