Davenport's Weekly Update
Week of January 26, 2025
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy February, Davenport Families!
We ended the month of January with parent teacher conferences, which was a success. It was great seeing the interaction between teachers and families for the betterment of our students. Collaboration and building meaningful supportive relationships with families is pivotal in supporting the student as a whole.
To end the month, we also had a special guest in our main office, walking throughout the halls, visiting lunches, and stopping into classes... Principal Jay! Our student Principal did an amazing job. We are looking forward to the next student Principal in January.
As we step into February, we’re excited about the many events we have planned to engage and inspire our students. This month, we’ll be celebrating a variety of activities, including:
Upcoming Events:
- Hallway Challenge – Students and staff will participate in fun activities that foster teamwork and school spirit.
- Boosterthon – This exciting fundraising event will support our school’s programs.
- Kindness Week – A week dedicated to promoting kindness and empathy throughout our school community.
- Read Across America – A celebration of reading that encourages our students to explore new books and stories.
Black History Month: We are also thrilled to celebrate Black History Month! Throughout February, teachers and students will honor the incredible achievements and contributions of African-American individuals who have shaped history. Our students will learn about influential figures such as George Crum, George Washington Carver, Thomas Martin, and many others who made lasting impacts in civil rights, the arts, the medical field, and beyond. Through exploring these stories, we hope to inspire our students to embrace kindness, empathy, and respect for all.
Health Reminder: As many students and staff are feeling under the weather, we encourage everyone to take extra care this month. Please remember to wash your hands regularly, maintain a safe distance when possible, and prioritize your health. Let’s work together to keep our community safe and healthy!
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a wonderful month ahead!

January Library/Counseling Lesson Recap
Staying Motivated & Trying Our Best
Presented by: Ms. Cavileer (Librarian) & Ms. Mehzabin (Counselor)
This month, Kindergarten and 1st-grade students explored perseverance and motivation through engaging stories, discussions, and activities.
Lesson Highlights:
● Understanding Effort: Students shared times they worked hard to learn something new.
● Story Time: We read The Monster Who Couldn’t Decide (Worry Woo)- Andi Green
● Motivation Discussion: Students learned that motivation comes from passion or rewards.
● Goal-Setting Activity: Each student created a "My Goal Star" sheet and added it to our Motivation Wall to stay encouraged!
Looking Ahead:
Students can visit the library to find more books about perseverance. We’ll celebrate their progress with a Motivation Star Ceremony soon!
Ask your child: What is one thing you are working hard to improve?
Thank you for supporting our students’ growth mindset!
