Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is the deepest and the most ancient lake in the world; it is about 25 million years old. It holds almost a quarter of the world's supply of fresh water, and the water is extremely pure and clear. Lake Baikal and its shores are home to 1,850 species of animals and 850 species of plants.

Krasnoyarsk Stolby

Stolby is one of the the oldest natural reserves in Russia. It was founded in 1925 to preserve the forests and mountains of the area. The taiga landscape creates the natural diversity of the park. The name Stolby (Pillars) was given for the unusually shaped mountains. These mountains originally were chilled magma, which were hidden underground.

Altai Mountains

Altai Mountains are about 60 million years old. They are the centre of Eurasia where Siberia and Central Asia come together, which makes them a unique location. In Turkic and Mongolic languages, the name, Altai, means the "Golden Mountain".
