From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
On behalf of the entire Salt Creek community, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Scanlan on the birth of her beautiful daughter! This is such a joyous occasion, and we are all thrilled for her and her family as they begin this wonderful new chapter. Mrs. Scanlan will be out on leave when we return in January and will return full time after spring break. We also want to express our deepest gratitude for her incredible leadership, dedication, and care she has shown to our students, staff, and community. As she takes this well-deserved time to focus on her family, we warmly welcome Mr. Hanus.
My name is Steven Hanus and I am currently the Physical Education teacher for both Salt Creek and Stella May Swartz Schools. I am excited to step in as acting Principal at Salt Creek School in the interim. I have been working with your Salt Creek students daily, so I know this will be an easy transition for them! Please reach out to me with any building or student concerns. If you need to get in contact with me, you can still call the school and ask to be directed to the principal, or email me at shanus@saltcreek48.org.
Have a wonderful holiday,
-Mr. Hanus

Please see the farewell message below from our Social Worker: Crystal Phan
Dear Salt Creek 48 Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I share the news of my departure from Salt Creek Primary and Stella May Swartz. Over the past 2.5 years, I have had the privilege of supporting your children as a school social worker. This role has been incredibly meaningful and I am truly grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me to help guide and support your students’ growth. I have learned just as much from each student as they have learned from me.
Although I am excited about the new opportunity ahead, leaving this wonderful community is bittersweet. The connections I’ve built with students, families, and staff will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for welcoming me into your lives and allowing me to be part of your children’s educational journey. I will always look back on my time here with deep fondness and gratitude.
I wish all of you continued success, growth, and happiness. I am confident that Salt Creek will continue to thrive and be a nurturing space for all students.
Warm regards,
Crystal Phan
Upon our return to school in January, we will introduce our Salt Creek families to our newly hired social worker. We wish Mrs. Phan all the best in her new endeavor!
Indoor or Outdoor Recess?
Students will go outside for recess when the weather and temperature is in the green and yellow categories. If the temperatures near the red zone students will have indoor recess.

Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
