May 2024 Newsletter
Bonjour Rideau Families,
And just like that, the sun is shining and it is May! Only 8 more weeks to the school year and we still have so much to learn and so much to do!
Our kindergarten Open House was a success. For families who could not attend, we will facilitate a visit after hours at the end of May. Just contact the office to put your name on the list if that is something you are interested in.
Primary bathrooms have been problematic lately. Children have been putting toys in the toilets, filling the bowls with toilet paper, forgetting to flush and playing with the stoppers in the urinals. This happens mostly with grade 1 and 2 students. I will visit classrooms to remind them of proper bathroom etiquette, but if you could reinforce that at home, that would be amazing.
If your child is in grade 6, we would really like for you to send us a baby picture. We have some very engaged grade 5 students putting together a slide show for the end of year celebration and we want to make sure we capture every student. Please send pictures directly to me at arsenaultv@limestone.on.ca. Jpeg format is the best for compatibility.
If you are dropping off your children at the FCCC in the morning, could you please refrain from parking in the staff parking lot, especially near the doors. This is where staff park when they have a lot of material to carry in the school. Thank you for your understanding.
You may have heard the Minister of Education's weekend announcement about cell phones. This policy is not much different from what we already have at the school and it will formally take effect in September. We will share more information in the fall.
Classroom organization - The board staffing committee met earlier this week and our school organization has been approved with 19 classes. This is what we anticipate having for September:
5 Kindergarten classes
3 grade 1 classes
3 grade 2 classes
1 split 2/3 class
2 grade 3 classes
1 grade 4 class
1 split 4/5 class
1 grade 5 class
1 split 5/6 class
1 grade 6 class
If you plan on changing school next year or if you are moving, please let us know so we can make the necessary adjustments. If you know of people moving into the area, encourage them to register their children as soon as possible.
In May, grade 3 and 6 students will complete the EQAO assessment. Teachers will let you know what date exactly and I will send information letters home to families.
Have you heard about the Maltby Centre? If not, check out their website. They have amazing resources for families and workshops for students. I have attached some documents below, feel free to consult them.
Don't forget that May 11 is the gently used clothes sale at the school. Items can be brought to the school in the days before the event. All the information is shared below.
Robert Hogan's Bus Line is looking for bus drivers if you have some free time on your hands and love interacting with children.
The Tett Centre is offering a workshop on family History, see the poster below for more information.

Volunteer: We need help! Come for a "power hour" of sorting on Friday May 10th before (2:30-3:30) or after (3:30-4:30) school pick up. Find us in the gym! Hot tip: The kids who came to help last year had a great time, bring your kids so they can be a part of this event that supports our community and the environment. We will be there 2-8pm so come anytime, even just for a 15 minutes! Many hands make light work. May 11th: Swing by the school at 2pm to pick up a few boxes of leftover items to donation locations
Yard Sale: IF the weather cooperates and we can get volunteers, we will also host a yard sale outside (Saturday May 11) for items not included in the clothing sale (larger toys, household items, furniture, sporting goods, etc). Stay tuned for more details and book the date if you are able to help set up, supervise, and/or clear up after the sale and drive leftover items to thrift shops (1pm)
