I'm often asked if I am ready for an Iowa winter. My standard reply is that I spent most of my growing up years in South Dakota, so it won't be my first winter. However, I've lived in the South for over 25 years, so it will be my first in a long time.

I was definitely not ready for the wind and cold this morning! But I did enjoy seeing the smiling faces of our students as they disembarked from your vehicles to come into school. I had gloves and hot coffee to help. Now that I think about it, y'all may have been smiling at how cold I looked on just the first day of winter ... and the temp was barely below freezing! Don't be surprised if you see me in earmuffs and a scarf in days to come.

Midwesterners do have a misconception about the South. It does snow. In fact, I had to cancel school several times because of weather - most of the time for hurricanes, but occasionally for snow. To prove that it snows in the South, I took this picture of the last blizzard we had in Eastern NC. We only missed two days of school.

I'm not sure I am ready for winter, and I may never fully adjust to the cold, but the smiles each morning warm my heart enough that I have confidence I will enjoy it!

Congratulations to Ms. Anmarie Stuit, one of our kindergarten teachers, who won the October Pella Staff Member of the Month award!

Angie, Jason, and Scott from Sioux Center Pella Corporation surprised Ms. Stuit and her class with a BIG CHECK for $500 yesterday afternoon!

The nomination letter by a parent shared, "Anmarie brings an incredible amount of patience, enthusiasm, and warmth to her classroom. Her caring smile and genuine love for her students create a nurturing environment where each child feels valued and supported."

Ms. Stuit receives $500 to be used to enhance learning in her classroom, plus a special mug and certificate.

We are SO grateful to Sioux Center Pella Corporation for this wonderful program they have done for several years as a way to honor and encourage our amazing local educators!! THANK YOU!

• There will be no Aftercare on Tuesday, November 26.
• There will be no school on Nov. 27-29 for the Thanksgiving Break. The school office will be closed.
• The TRIP office will be open 8:00-1:00 on Wednesday (Nov. 27) and closed on Thursday and Friday (Nov. 28 & 29)

We will be using Bloomz Alert to notify families of any weather related announcements (early outs/late starts/no school). Weather notifications will also be posted on Facebook, our website, KTIV and KSOU.

Bloomz Alerts are automatically sent through the Bloomz app and the email you have attached to Bloomz. If you would like to receive text notifications, please add your phone number to Bloomz using the instructions below.

We value the partnership between our parents and school! We want to invite you into the school so you can experience what’s happening in the classroom. Each grade level will be hosting a Parent Visit Day again this year. You are invited to join us for some time in the classroom and a pizza lunch on us!

8th Grade visit day will be on Friday, Dec. 6. Join us at 11:00 in the band room followed by a classroom visit and a Pizza Ranch Lunch. Please sign up here by Monday, Dec. 2.

1st Grade visit day will be on Friday, December 13. Join us at 10:15 in the band room followed by a classroom visit and pizza for lunch. Please sign up here by Monday, Dec. 9.

Sign up to bring food for Teacher Appreciation Social (Dec 18)

We are so blessed to have amazing staff at SCCS! Now it’s our turn to bless them this Christmas season!

The annual December Teacher Appreciation Social is set for Wednesday, December 18. We would love to bless the staff by having a variety of snacks and appetizers for them to enjoy after school, while we show them our appreciation for all they do for our children.

We ask that your food item(s) be brought to the school office by Noon on Wednesday, December 18. If you are unable to get your food item(s) to school on that day, please contact Kara Dieleman to make other arrangements (712-578-9776). If you have your food item in a container/crockpot that you need back, please label it with your name for pickup in the school office the next day.

Did you know you can give a gift in which you get 75% of the gift BACK?!

This is possible when you give to NICSTO, an Iowa School Tuition Organization. Any Iowa taxpayer (or S-Corp, LLC, Estate, Trust, or C-Corp) can make a gift in which 100% is directed to Sioux Center Christian School students, but 75% of your gift comes back to YOU as an Iowa TAX CREDIT certificate - deducts right off your Iowa income tax bill!

As parents, you may donate to NICSTO fox the income tax benefits even if your students receive a NICSTO grant!

Students in grades 3-8 took the ISASP assessment last spring. The results are in and have been reviewed by board, administration, and teachers. If you would like to receive your child's report, please contact the office at sccsoffice@siouxcenterchristian.com. Thank you!

• If you would like to eat lunch with your child, please contact the school 24 hours in advance of when you would like to eat. The cost for a lunch is $5.00 and can be charged to your family's lunch account as you go through the line. Thank you!

We believe all our faculty and staff are amazing and encourage you to take the time to nominate one (or more) of your children’s teachers!

Complete the nomination form (printed copies are available by the TRIP window) and return to our school office or mail to/drop off at Pella Corp. by the 25th of each month during the school year.

Each month a winner is chosen from our local schools and receives a $500 gift from Sioux Center Pella Corp, which can be used in their classroom to impact learning!

We are extremely grateful to Pella Corp for this program that serves to encourage and bless our faculty and staff!

The New Life Church Legacy Team is selling frozen cookie dough that is cutout in Christmas shapes (snowmen, stars, trees) as a fundraiser for Christian education. They are $7/dozen. Just bake and add your own frosting - they are so easy and delicious!

Did you know that First CRC makes delicious pigs in the blanket for their Christian education fund and sells them year-round at Casey’s Bakery? Look for them in the Casey’s Bakery freezer section. A dozen is just $16. An easy meal – they bake from frozen in 45-55 minutes!

All middle school students and their parents are invited to our Middle School Open house on Monday, Nov. 25 from 7:00-8:30pm to learn more about Unity Christian High School. We will all meet in the Knight Center form 7:00-7:30pm and then break out into sections. If you have questions you can call 712-737-4114.
