James Madison Discovery Center
2013-2014
Our goals of the Discovery Center are:
~To encourage the student's interest and enjoyment of reading.
~To acquire and maintain a balanced collection of media center resources which meet the needs of the students and staff.
~To create an environment where the students become efficient and effective information seekers and users as well as informed decision makers.
~To support the curriculum and classroom programs by providing necessary materials and appropriate guidance to foster student learning.
About Our Center
We utilize a "flexible schedule" meaning that we are open and available for the teachers to bring students down anytime during school hours for book exchanges and project based-learning. Our Center uses an automated circulation system. Students are allowed to check out a maximum of 2 books, due back in a week. All users are responsible for lost or damaged materials checked out under their name. It is also the user’s responsibility to ensure that materials are properly returned. Overdue notices will be sent out periodically. There are no fines charged for overdue books, but prompt return is expected. Lost or damaged materials will be billed to the patron.
The Center strives to encourage our students to be independent, recreational readers, to explore books they might not normally choose and to be excited about reading by choosing books that interest them. Students will be encouraged to choose books that are on their levels, while also respecting interests and free choice.
I am looking forward to an exciting year!
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Denzer
