Curriculum Corner
October 2024
Welcome to the first edition of the Curriculum Corner. Each month, I will send updates on the curriculum, activities around the district, and information for families to learn more about what is happening in the schools.
Please email me with ideas for future communication and feedback on the first edition.

Week of Respect Oct. 7 - 11
One way to think about respect is “seeing value in all people and things and treating them with care.” Many people feel respected in different ways, and we hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what respect means to you and how you can practice it together!
Have some fun connecting as a family this month while practicing respect. Here are some ideas:
Find a time to celebrate all the ways you have seen each other practice respect
What family members do you want to celebrate for their respect?
What are some ways that you have been a good friend lately?
Agree as a family to unplug from devices and plug into family time; it shows respect by being present in the moment without distractions.
Look for information from each school about how respect is celebrated next week!

i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction Information
Grades k - 8
I am excited to share that our district will be using a Mathematics and Reading program called i-Ready.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. These lessons are interactive and provide strategic supports to keep your child engaged as they learn.

Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 - October 15
Throughout the district, the schools have recognized Hispanic Heritage Month with student-led morning announcements, posters with QR codes featuring influential Hispanic people around the high school, beautiful displays of Hispanic authors and characters in our media centers, and many lessons throughout our Spanish classes.
