Easley Weekly Update

I hope everyone had a good weekend and is ready for the week ahead.

Classified Staff Appreciation

As you have likely been following over the last couple weeks, many of our classified staff members have been impacted by the district's recent change in recognizing years of experience and have taken quite a hit with the recent salary changes, needleless to say morale across the district has been low. Many of you have reached out asking how to best show your support to our amazing classified staff. While we can’t fix the hurt that has been done, we can celebrate these individuals and let them know how much we appreciate and value all they do to make Easley a great place to work and learn! Please join us this week as we recognize and celebrate our amazing classified staff. Feel free to participate in as much or as little of the celebration and appreciation efforts as you'd like; the daily schedule is below. Thank you for helping to make Easley such a great school community.

The PTA will be providing our classified staff with breakfast on Monday, git cards and goodie bags on Wednesday, and a catered lunch on Friday. Each day of the week we will highlight a group on the morning announcements and teachers will share the THIS presentation with students during morning meeting over the course of the week. Our intent is to ensure our students know and understand the value of the positions our classified staff hold and just how instrumental they are to the day to day functioning of our school. I am sharing the presentation with our community for the same purpose. Our classified staff is the backbone of the district, working hard to create environments that are conducive to effective teaching and learning.

Monday - Instructional Assistants/Behavioral Support Assistants/Media Assistant/Personal Care Assistant

Tuesday - Front Office and Nurses

Wednesday - Custodians and After School

Thursday - OT/PT

Friday - Cafeteria staff

Early Release Day

Please be reminded that our next Early Release Day is February 16 and school will dismiss two hours early, at 12:15 PM.

The Lottery Window is Still Open

As you are aware, Durham Public Schools is going through a major redistricting plan called Growing Together. Earlier, you’ve been contacted regarding your child’s school assignment for the coming school year. Most of our families are affected by this redistricting plan and will need to apply for the lottery in hopes to continue at Easley. On Monday, January 8th, the lottery application opens and will continue until February 9th. You must apply before 5:00 pm on February 9th.

You may submit your application starting at midnight at this link: https://applydpsnc.schoolmint.com/login You will first need to create an account and then apply for each child (in grades K-3). You will need your child’s student id. Please contact Leah Rubow at leah_rubow@dpsnc.net or call the school if you need your student’s id number. Easley will also hold two afternoon events at our front lobby to assist families with the application. Leah Rubow and our interpreter, Ana Ramirez, will host two assistance events (both in English and Spanish) on January 17 and January 24 from 2:00-4:30.

Also, the district is hosting application assistance sessions. Saturday help sessions are available at 2107 Hillandale Rd.
