LMS Weekly Newsletter
October 6, 2024
Dear LMS Families,
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the sunny fall day. We had some rain last week that cooled things down, but not all of us were prepared for the shift in the weather - even Mr. Ramos was caught at drop-off without the right gear. The time has come to bring layers so that we are ready for just about anything - Portland weather shifts very quickly and can take us by surprise sometimes!
Last week we played Loteria in the library to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and this week we will have team trivia at lunch. We are planning a larger Celebration of Us for the spring to celebrate all of the diverse cultures in our school!
Progress reports have been put in the mail in waves, but you an always check your students' grades in ParentVue. Some families opted for the paperless progress reports, but our default is to mail a paper copy to you. The challenge has been the closure of our district print shop, which resulted in us having to print on our copier and stuff envelopes by hand - we really miss the print shop! We are working with other schools and district leadership to problem-solve a better way to do it without the printing services we are used to having. If you are still having trouble getting into ParentVUE please give us a call and we can help you!
Last week we also started conducting tardy sweeps following the bells to be in class because some of our students have struggled getting to class on time. We notice that the cause seems to be walking their friends to class or making an extra trip to their locker unnecessarily. We are coaching our students to make better use of their time and would love your help; please ask your students about how things are going for them and let us know how we can help.
Chromebooks have been deployed to students and our expectation is that they will all stay at school to minimize damage and loss. Families are responsible for the cost of replacement and repairs, and we are working to do our part to help students take good care of the technology they need in order to learn in the classroom.
Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, 10/11 for Statewide Inservice. The building will be closed - enjoy the three day weekend!
We appreciate your partnership and all that you do to support your students and their learning at school each day.
Warmly,
Rosemarie El Youssef

REMIND
When you get an email and text message from our school leaders and educators that communication likely came from one of two platforms: Remind or SchoolMessenger. Both platforms take the email addresses and phone numbers you provide, store those securely and sync with our student information system to capture any changes.
Most often, we use SchoolMessenger to contact you. In these instances, the sender decides how it will come to you – as a call, text, or email. With Remind, though, the decision sits with the recipient: do you want to read a message as a text or email, or do you want the message in the Remind app on your phone? (This last option would require you to download the app).
As a district, we have been well-served by both platforms, and school communities have adapted each to their needs. However, in a year of budget cuts, continuing both platforms is not sustainable.
We therefore want to share that, starting this school year (24-25), Remind will become our only broadcast messaging tool as a district.
You will want to opt into our school messages with the code @lanemidd. We would strongly encourage you to set your personal preferences in Remind. Teachers will have class codes for you to opt into soon. Look for these codes when teachers send home beginning of the year communications.
While this is a technical shift, we know it is a shift that touches on your daily experience with your student’s school. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as we navigate this change.
Sincerely,
Rosemarie El Youssef, Principal
Jesus Ramos, Assistant Principal
Emily Barron, Assistant Principal
