GHS Counseling Monthly Update
September Deets from the Den
Updates for Seniors
- Counselors will meet with seniors in their English classrooms on September 4th and 5th to discuss next steps in post-secondary planning. Topics include how to request official transcripts, letters of recommendation and the college application process. We will also discuss workforce and military opportunities.
- Grandview counselors will be hosting the College Information Workshop on September 9th @ 6:00pm. Please save the date and plan to join us for a great evening (open to students/parents in grades 11-12). See the attachment for more information.
Letters of Recommendation: Students MUST give teachers at least 10 school days notice before a letter of recommendation is due. Teacher letters are due two weeks prior to transcript request deadlines. We have a 4-step process for ensuring that letters of recommendation are completed correctly.
- Step 1- Student completes Teacher/Counselor Conversation Starter in Naviance. Students should waive rights to see letters of recommendation in order for the process to continue. Also, students should print off the survey once it is completed. To find the survey, log into Naviance and click on "About Me"> Surveys From Your School> Teacher/Counselor Letter of Recommendation Request.
- Step 2- Student schedules a time to meet with teacher/counselor and go over the request. Then, print out and deliver the survey from Step 1.
- Step 3- Student confirms with TEACHER that the letter has been written and uploaded in Naviance. The teacher/counselor will not receive an email notification to do this which is why the student must speak to the teacher/counselor directly to request it.
- Step 4- Once the Letter of Recommendation is uploaded to Naviance by the teacher, students can submit the Transcript Request Form to the post grad office. Transcripts must be requested two weeks prior to application deadlines. (Be aware of Fall, Thanksgiving, Winter Break. Counselors DO NOT work during school breaks).
The Boettcher Scholarship: Application now open! Students should notify their counselor if they intend to apply. More information here: https://boettcherfoundation.org/
Daniels Fund Scholarship: Application Phase 1 open 9/16 - 10/18. Students should notify their counselor if they intend to apply. More information here: https://www.danielsfund.org/
College/University Admission Rep visits @ GHS: Students have the opportunity to meet with college/university admission representative in our Post Grad office. The schedule of visits is found in Naviance under College Visits as well as the link to register for a visit.

Looking back at August!
- It was great to see so many students and families at Back to School Night on August 13th. Ninth graders and new families that may have missed the Passages presentation given that evening can view the attached PowerPoint. This will also be available on the GHS website under Counseling.
- Find your counselor here: https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Page/11864. Counselors are available to students throughout the school day on a walk-in basis (counselors will see students if available), or by appointment (using the link above). We can meet in person or via Teams, as needed. We look forward to working with you and your student/s throughout the year. Parents are welcome to use the above link to schedule an appointment, as well.
- You may notice your student has been assigned to Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior Seminar courses. Students will receive weekly updates from the counseling office on their seminar page through Schoology. These updates will feature various tasks pertaining to academic, personal/social, and post-secondary planning throughout the school year. More information about seminars will be disseminated in the future. The counselor assigned to your student is the teacher of this course. This class does not meet in-person.
- Night School for credit recovery registration closed on August 28th.
