NO SCHOOL - APRIL 22 THROUGH APRIL 26 - SPRING BREAK
MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Charlotte Community,
Wednesday was an uplifting day! We were able to celebrate the passing of the CVSD budget. Our PBiS celebration was scheduled bringing together big and little partners. We could also start to think forward to the 2024-2025 school year. Please provide feedback to our placements teams by completing this survey before we get back from break.
We hope all of you have a peaceful and recharging April vacation. It is hard to believe when we have students back in the building, it will be April 29th. There is so much to look forward to in the last six weeks of school.
Take Care,
Jen Roth, CCS Principal

CVSD SAFETY
School Safety has been the center of our work in CVSD. At Tuesday night’s school board meeting and on Thursday evening at CCS, the layers of school safety and collaboration were shared. I am including a copy of the CCS slides for you to review. What was apparent from the CCS meeting was the strong collaboration between CCS staff, administration and a wealth of outside responders. As a state, Vermont provides a site that highlights training, procedures and guidelines for handling a diverse scope of safety situations in our schools. Vermont School Safety Center (VT DPS).

FREE SUMMER MEALS FOR THOSE 18 AND UNDER THIS SUMMER!
We have an amazing opportunity to help families in our district to bridge the food gap during the summer by providing 7-day meal boxes for free for any child 18 or under. The boxes will include everything needed to make 7 breakfast meals and 7 lunch meals for 1 child. They will be simple, delicious and nutritious. Again, these boxes are available for any child 18 and under. We are able to offer this service thanks to some recent changes in USDA regulations for Summer Food Service Programs. Please see this letter for more information about this exciting opportunity.
MORE FAMILIES NOW ELIGIBLE FOR CHILD CARE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Did you know? The state of Vermont helps cover child care costs. Starting on April 7, more families will qualify for tuition assistance based on family size and income. For example, a family of four making $124,800 a year can get help paying for our program. You can find out more about eligibility requirements online. To apply, contact your local Community Child Care Support Agency.
BeSMART
Safety is always an adult responsibility. Kids will be kids, so it’s always an adult’s responsibility to keep children safe. Always assume that curious or impulsive kids may find and touch an unsecured gun, even if they’ve been told not to. If a child handles a gun, a bad decision can quickly become a fatal one. Be SMART adults protect kids by making sure all guns are stored securely, which means they are inaccessible to kids, and by making sure children are never in the presence of unsecured guns. Learn more on this flyer.
Do you need to secure your firearm? Free cable gun locks are available in our school office, the school district's office, the police station, and public libraries. Stop by and pick one up!
SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
Hello Parents, Caregivers, and Friends of Children with special needs,
My name is Erin Bingham. I am the mother of 2 at HCS - a second grader and a preschooler. My youngest has a rare genetic condition, Williams Syndrome. I am interested in both creating a network of individuals who care for kids with special needs that can serve as a support and working together to establish a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) that would serve the entire district. SEPACs advocate for the interests of any child with any kind of special need at school. Although there is a commitment from CVSD administration, this is the first step in a long process to gauge interest and commitment, but there is no timeline yet.
If you are interested at any level in either connecting with others who support kids with special needs, or in understanding more about what would be necessary to start a SEPAC, please email me at bingham.erin@gmail.com.
Warmly,
Erin
