Teacher Appreciation
We would LOVE to celebrate ALL our Ridgeway teachers! We courage your child to write a note or compliment to not only their homeroom teacher but maybe a specials teacher or another teacher they appreciate.
Teacher Appreciation Week is just around the corner, May 5-9. As a part of the activities that the Teacher Appreciation Committee has planned for that week we ask that you help your kiddos fill one of these out for their teacher(s). While the teachers all love the treats and trinkets that we provide, it's the notes from the kids (and their families) that are the real treasures. If you have any questions about Teacher Appreciation Week, please contact me at KyleneS.is@gmail.com.
This past Saturday, Sam Schick from Unit C attended the Creating Original Music Project (COMP) 2025 Festival at the Sinquefield Music Center where her song "Call On Me" won 1st place in the "Elementary Songs with Words” category, a state-wide competition for K-5 students. Sam performed her song at the event. As her music teacher, Ms. Abby Meeds sponsored her submission and attended the award ceremony to cheer on Sam.
Unit Notes
Unit A
We had a busy week of iReady testing in Unit A. We are taking the test slowly and steadily, giving our best effort! We are very proud of everyone's hard work!
*Reading/Writing:* We are wrapping up our animal unit with hands-on experience in raising chicks. We have learned about parents and their offspring, life cycles, and the difference between facts and opinions, focusing on chickens. It has been a wonderful experience to hatch and raise our chicks as part of our learning.
*Math:* This week has been dedicated to iReady testing, and we are just as proud of your child's efforts in math as we are in reading.
**MATH NIGHT:** We look forward to seeing everyone at our Unit A Math Night on May 1st from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. It will be an open house-style event, and we would be delighted if you could join us for as much or as little time as possible. There will be themed activities and take-home games to help incorporate math into your family's fun at home!
**Munch n' Read:** Our final Munch n' Read will be next Friday, May 2nd. We hope you can join us for our last celebration of family reading in the classroom!
Unit B
We love this time of year because our ocean study allows us to integrate multiple subject areas.
*Math: This week students combined research with math skills to draw life-sized pictures of their ocean animal. Mrs. Munsterman led this fun, chalk activity!
*Reading/writing: Students are learning about text features as they peruse nonfiction books looking for animal facts. We have 5 main categories for which we are searching for information—appearance, food, shelter, babies, and other information. Students are learning how to identify key words for notetaking. The next step is drafting sentences before starting a technology project.
*We can’t wait to share final projects on May 13 at the Student Showcase!
Unit C
We will begin iReady testing next week (April 28th to May 2nd). The best way to prepare is to get a good night's sleep!
Health - We are studying communicable and noncommunicable diseases. Students have researched a disease of their choice and are making a brochure to present their knowledge.
Science - We're gearing up for our Missouri River field trip on Friday, May 9th! Leading up to the trip, we've been diving into the fascinating processes of weathering, erosion, and deposition. Now, we can't wait to take our learning beyond the classroom and see these Earth-shaping forces in action. It’s going to be an unforgettable hands-on science adventure!
MO River Field Trip - We would love to have parents join us on the river trip. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you would like to join us on May 2nd. Also, please fill out and return the river risk release form -- indicating if you give permission for your child to ride on the boat. The risk release form must be returned in order to attend the field trip at all. Please return these no later than Tuesday, April 29.

We celebrated kindness school-wide with lessons and a Kindness Assembly featuring a short play based on the story “Please” from children’s literature, “Hello Friend” song from Unit A and Unit C choir performance with Mr. White.
In our lessons, students explored through writing, discussion and children’s literature: What it means to be kind, why kindness matters, role plays and kindness scenarios,- How one small act can make a big difference. Kindness Boomerang: Life Vest Inside - Kindness Boomerang - "One Day" Children’s Literature: “What does it mean to be kind?” “When we are kind” Kindness is a choice we can make every day! Our recent counseling lessons focused on the power of Perseverance and a Growth Mindset. Children’s Literature: books like The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes and Splash:Growth Mindset, The Tortoise and the Hare and famous figures who did not give up. Students learned:
