NIS Weekly News

Dear NIS Families,

Beginning today, Monday, April 6th, the Nantucket Public Schools have moved from "optional and supplemental learning" to more required learning activities and experiences. Here is a link to an important document shared with our families and posted on the NPS website:

By today you have received a schedule from your child's homeroom teacher and additional schedules from other educators/therapists your child may work with. We are so very proud of the tremendous work and collaboration our NIS staff have engaged in to prepare for this week and the weeks ahead. They have very quickly learned about many of the digital tools available to support online learning, sat in countless virtual meetings with colleagues to collaborate and learn from one another, and worked hard to ensure your children have connected with them these last couple of weeks. Their diligence has resulted in schedules for learning which include both "live" sessions with teachers and independent work for students, and Teacher Coffee Hours to engage with and support you. While we are full of anticipation that our schedules will work, we also know that your feedback will be instrumental as we move forward and adjustments are made. We fully expect there will be some bumps along the road as we venture forward on this journey. Thank you in advance for sharing what is and what is not working.

We also want to recognize just how challenging this may be for you at home. Many of you are balancing working from home with supporting multiple children with their remote learning. This is no easy task! While the learning is required, please know that you, as the parent and your child's first teacher, know what is best for them. If you notice that your child has a difficult time engaging in a longer virtual meeting, it's okay to let them leave the meeting early. We just ask that you collaborate with the teacher and let them know what is working and what's hard for your child. Adjustments can be made, and learning individualized with your support.

Thank you so much for being on this new learning adventure with us. We truly know how involved you are with supporting your children and their academic, emotional, and physical needs daily. Please know and share with your children just how much we miss being with our students at NIS. Many thanks to those of you who have shared photos. It helps to "see" our NIS kiddos!

Students, caregivers, parents, and families may call in to either School Counselor at those times. If these times do not work for you please contact the School Counselors to Schedule an appointment.
