Student Articles
There is a remarkable display outside Mrs. Ostendorf's classroom. It is the Book-in-a-Box Project. Students make models and gather information from a book, then carefully organize, sort, and reconstruct it in a box, such as space shuttles and fish models. Each student completes a project and then answers questions about it in a presentation.
Then, I entered the room and started the questions.
Who are you: Nathaniel Spaar, in Mrs Ostendorf's class.
What is your box about: “The Bermuda Triangle”.
When did you start: “some time last week.”
Where is the triangle: “One of its points is in Puerto Rico through the borders of the Bahamas, then landing in Florida and ending in the Sargasso Sea.”
Why is the triangle important? “ It is important because dozens of ships go missing, and there is a large magnetic pull in it, which is very mysterious and dangerous.”
Nathaniel was fascinating to listen to. He clearly understood his subject. He knew about the magnetic properties of the geographical features of the underwater mountains. He also told about a ship called the Cyclops, an old sail ship that traveled through the triangle, and when it was discovered, it had two dogs with barbeque going on the grill.
Mrs. Ostendorf stated, “Students enjoyed investing hours into creating and organizing a minimum of eight objects which portrayed an influential character, event, or object. Overall, students became very invested in their depictions”
Author: Ezra Kepler, sixth-grader in Mrs. Blankenship's media class. His family has been in the Mat Su Valley for generations, pioneering the settlement of Alaska. He loves to take photos and write stories.
Principal's Corner
Hello AMC Families,
As we finish the month of February, it’s thrilling to see a renewed sense of hope and well-being with Spring being right around the corner. The days are getting longer, and the weather is starting to warm, which is always welcome. It’s the perfect time to remind students about the importance of staying active and healthy, both physically and mentally. We encourage all students to get enough rest, eat nutritious meals, stay active, in and outside of school, and always do their best.
With March and Spring Break approaching, it’s important for everyone to continue working together to keep students motivated, focused, and engaged in their learning. Thank you for making parent/teacher conferences a success and for your ongoing support. I am Amazed by all the hard work students, families, and AMC staff have put in so far this year; the dividends are well worth the effort. AMC will accomplish positive and lasting results with such a strong school community.
Thank you again for your support as we ‘Achieve Academic Excellence Together.’
Sincerely,
Ms. Farren
