Principally Speaking
We are getting in a groove, as the year is under way and our diagnostic assessments are completed staff and students are getting in the groove of the year. Last week our facilities department installed our Gaga Pit, this was something we were granted from Fit For Kids at Lincoln and I am glad we were able to bring it over. Recess is a great time for kids to play Gaga, if you do not know what it is, ask your son or daughter about it. Our PE teachers also gave a brief lesson Tuesday and followed it up with more in depth practice and instruction during PE class Thursday. The Gaga pit is a fun addition to our playground options. We also have a few dogs that visit Fox Ridge. These dogs have gone through training and are here to support students and staff. This is an excellent frequent support organized by Patty Griffith and Laura Hill, our student support interventionist and para. Finally, classes have been working hard to build class room routines and many are reaching the goal of 10 PAWS. 5th grade opted to have a read-in and fort making this week. Keep up the great work!
This week we had two of our mandated safety drills, Tuesday we had our fire drill. All students and staff were able to exit Fox Ridge safely and timely. This afternoon, we had our enhanced lockdown drill with the St. Charles Police Department. Classes remain in their rooms, and spread out and are directed to follow directions of their teacher. The district is rolling out a new response system, ALICE training which teachers took part in last year, there will be more information coming soon. Next week we will do our final severe weather drill for the fall. We appreciate the support in these practice drills.
Arrival and Dismissal Safety
During arrival and dismissal we need your help. If you are driving and picking up, please know that cell phones are prohibited. This is a law, and we need all families that are driving to please put your phones down while you are on school premises. Also, for those that are picking up your children in the neighborhood to the south of the school, parents have reported very unsafe driving and parking. Students are walking and crossing streets, please demonstrate extreme caution when you are on that street. We do not want any accidents or injuries. Finally, the playground after school is not supervised, if your son or daughter is not with an adult, please encourge them to come home. We appreciate your support in these matters of keeping arrival and dismissal safe.
Curriculum Night Information
This year, D303 Elementary Schools are transitioning from the informal open house format of the past few years to a more structured Curriculum Night. Moving to formal teacher presentations will allow our parents to stay informed regarding our curriculum as well to learn about what a typical elementary day looks like. It will also give parents and teachers an opportunity to connect and discuss any questions regarding our curriculum and expectations. (Note: This will not be an evening where parents will be able to talk to the teacher regarding their individual child. Conferences will be held on October 10th and 11th.) Each grade level will present the same presentation twice. This will allow parents to choose a session to attend as well as give them the ability to attend multiple grade levels if they have more than one child at Fox Ridge.
This is an event for parents only. We recognize that childcare may be a challenge for some families. Our Fox Ridge staff will be providing supervision and activities for any students attending Fox Ridge (K-5) for that evening. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide care for children that do not attend Fox Ridge as a student.
We hope to see you all there!!

Dear Families of 5th Grade Students!
We are thrilled to announce that this year D303 is again offering a 5th Grade Choir Program for ALL Elementary Schools! This program will run in a similar fashion as the current Elementary Band and Orchestra programs with a weekly before school rehearsal, but will NOT conflict with current band and orchestra rehearsals. The choir program will run through May, with our first rehearsal being Monday, September 23!
Choir will meet on Monday mornings at Norton Creek Elementary School from 8:10-8:50 a.m. Parents/guardians are responsible for dropping off their choir students at Norton Creek between 8:00-8:05 a.m. D303 Transportation will provide a bus for Fox Ridge students, who are enrolled in Before the Bell on Mondays, which will pick Fox Ridge students up at Munhall and bring them to Norton Creek for choir rehearsal. D303 transportation will also transport Fox Ridge students from Norton Creek to Fox Ridge after the morning rehearsal for the start of their school day. There will not be rehearsals on student non-attendance days. In addition to Monday rehearsals, we will be having choir rehearsals on the following days in which D303 elementary schools are following the Monday schedule to balance attendance days:
Tuesday, 10/15, choir rehearsal
Thursday, 1/9, choir rehearsal
The cost for choir is $20 for the school year. You will be charged the choir fee through Pushcoin once choir registration has closed. Please email your school’s Administrative Assistant if you are having any challenges with payment. Students will also be asked to purchase a choir t-shirt which is required for choir performances--that info coming after rehearsals begin.
Our first concert will be Vertical Voices, on January 27, 2025 at Wredling Middle School, which will encompass D303 choir students from 5th through 12th grades. I will update you when I have more details. We will also have 2 more performances in the spring--both TBD.
The goal of the 5th grade elementary choir program is to offer a formal choral music opportunity to our young students and to enrich their musical experience while preparing for middle and high school vocal music possibilities. We will work on ensemble practice, team building, vocal technique, vocal health, unison and part-singing, all through a rich variety of vocal music repertoire. I look forward to this adventure and hope your child will be a part of this wonderful experience!

Registration will be open through 9/23.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to email me!
Sincerely,

Join us at the 2024 Kick-A-Thon!
Fox Ridge students can join Ms. Adolph and Mrs. Harry in holding our school banner before the North vs East football game at North High School on October 4th! We also need plenty of cheering for the Fox Ridge Kicker, Mrs. Johnson! If your student will be there to carry the banner around the track with the teachers before the game, please email Mrs Monahan in the office at Colleen.Monahan@d303.org to be included in further communications. We look forward to seeing many Fox Ridge Foxes there! To donate to the Kick-A-Thon to benefit Fox Valley Food for Health and the Colette A. Miles Foundation, please use the QR code below
KICK-A-THON is a local event that began over 30 years ago as an effort from the St. Charles High School Dance Team to raise money to help kick cancer. It has grown to include East and North High School Dance Teams and other amazing charities. This charity event will benefit the Fox Valley Food for Health, Colette A. Miles Foundation, and the high school dance teams. To date, we have raised over a million dollars and need your help to keep that number growing. Please join the St. Charles High School Dance Teams as we raise money to kick cancer.
This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 4th, 2024, at St. Charles North High School, prior to the start of the varsity football game between St. Charles North and St. Charles East. Local community members who help with fundraising will form a kick line alongside the dance team members and kick 100 times in an effort to raise money for these charities.
