Newsletter - Term 3, Week 1
Thursday 28 July 2022
From the Principal
Kia ora koutou katoa
Welcome back
I hope everyone was able to enjoy the school holidays. While it's really nice to have a break to recharge, it is also a great feeling to see the school come back to life on the first day of a new term.
The term has started with the Ministry asking schools to reintroduce mask wearing for students at Y4 and above. My observation so far is that students are managing this requirement extremely well. As a reminder, if your child has an exemption can you please let the school know.
NCEA Accord Day
Monday 22 August is a teacher only day. The day is one of three this year provided to schools to support the implementation of the upcoming changes to NCEA. It's worth noting that there will be one more of these days this year on Friday 25 November.
Board Elections
This year is a board election year. I've enjoyed working with our current board - a knowledgeable and supportive group of people who work extremely hard to make our school a great place to be. If you would like to be involved with the next board, keep an eye out for nomination material, or if you'd like to know more about what it's like to be on the board, contact the Board Presiding Member - Nigel Humphries (info@anchorageteanau.nz).

Co Curricular Week
There are only 10 days to go before a week of activities that will enrich, stimulate, inform and excite our students! Please ensure you have completed any forms or other requirements, as swift returns assist us.
If you are experiencing any financial hardship please contact the College, preferably Steven Mustor - Principal (s.mustor@fiordland.school.nz) or Shaun Cantwell - Deputy Principal (s.cantwell@fiordland.school.nz) or anyone you feel comfortable talking to.
If you are short of any gear we possibly can assist, but we need to know this week please.
We have planned as much around Covid as possible and other winter ailments. All the activity leaders will have RATs and other gear. We do, however, ask that you ensure your child has as much sleep and rest as possible over the next week so their immune systems are robust. Thank you.

Wellness Team
Kia ora whānau and the wider Fiordland College community
We are in the process of setting up a working 'Wellness Team'. We would love to have the input and voice from all key stakeholders of Fiordland College. Ideally we would like to have a rōpū (group) from our staff, ākonga (learners), whānau and the wider community. We acknowledge the importance and significance of each of these groups and the contributions that can be made.
The purpose of this group would be to:
- Ensure that all voices contribute to our vision of what wellness means for our community and what matters to whānau, students and staff within this realm.
- Have kōrero (discussion) on what you would like to see happen within Fiordland College so that all are able to flourish, feel good and function well.
- To provide support for initiatives to become a part of our everyday life at Fiordland College and home.
We hope to have our first hui (meeting) on Wednesday 3rd August 7pm. This will be to look at our upcoming 'Life Skills & Wellness Day' to be held on Thursday 15th September.
Involvement is very flexible and we appreciate any contributions made.
If you are interested, or have any questions, please email Shelley Wilson s.wilson@fiordland.school.nz.
