A Message from Mrs. Mills (Richey)
Happy November Sunday, Harris Park Families!
In observance of Veterans Day, there will be no school on Monday, November 11th.
We also warmly invite you to our next PTA meeting on Tuesday, November 12th, from 4:00-4:45 PM in the library. For more information, please email Laurie Perila at lperila@wps.org.
Cooler, and windier weather, has definitely been rolling in. Please do not drop off students prior to 7:30am. We are unable to provide supervision or bring students into the building until 7:30. Sending your child to school with layers is also encouraged as we can experience significant weather changes within our school day. It is also very helpful if you write your child's name on the inside label of jackets and coats.
Mark your calendars. Thanksgiving break is November 25th to the 29th. Students return to school on Monday, December 2nd.
November is the perfect month to practice sharing gratitude. According to positive psychology research out of Harvard Medical School, "... gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships." One way to foster gratitude in our children is to ask them questions designed to elicit thankfulness. A few sample questions are:
What are some things you are thankful for in your life?
Who are some people you are grateful to have in your life?
What is something you've accomplished recently that you are proud of and grateful for?
What is the best thing that happened to you today?
Who is your favorite person and why?
What is something you experienced that made you happy and grateful?
What skill or talent do you have that you are thankful for?
Did anyone thank you for doing something nice today?
Name three people you can say thank you to for something today.
What is a pet or animal you are grateful for?
What is a quality about yourself that you appreciate and are grateful for?
What is a skill or subject in school that you enjoy learning and are grateful for?
These are just a few of the many questions we can ask to enhance gratitude. I encourage everyone to share their gratitude with and for those around us. And, I thank each of you for the many ways you love your children and support them in all they do. We have the very best families! Go team unicorn!
Love,
Mrs. Mills (Richey)
