Have A Question For The District or Story Suggestion for 109 News?
Welcome to May! We are starting to include incoming kindergarten families on our biweekly newsletters to ensure they don't miss anything important for the upcoming year and so they get to know the district better! We hope you enjoy this action packed issue of 109 News and, as always, please reach out to communications@dps109.org if you have any questions or ideas!
Appreciating Our Earth & This Beautiful Weather!
DPS 109 is thankful for our great partnership with the Village of Deerfield. For the 4th consecutive year, the village donated a tree to be planted at one of schools to mark Arbor Day. This year, it was planted near the Early Learners entrance and some of our students (pictured above) got to help scoop some dirt! Also pictured: Mayor Dan Shapiro speaks with students about the importance of taking care of the Earth.
The BOE Recap
The Board of Education held their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, April 18th. We were thrilled to welcome students from each school that finished in the top two of 109's Young Authors competition! Congrats to Madison, Emmy, Shae, Avery, Autumn, Emily, Aubri, Cailey, Lucy, Sydney, Nalini, and Nora!
- Four students from each school talked about how they planned and executed a charity volleyball tournament between the SP, Wilmot, and Caruso staffs!
- Thank you to Cooper, Kylie, Genevieve, Jonah, Maya, Mia, Harper, and Ari for presenting!
Digital Media Safety Resources for Families
Throughout the year, students receive lessons on digital citizenship & safety in DPS 109. We know that it can be hard for families to keep up with the latest apps and platforms that kids are using these days. Also, check out the page below for a ton of links and resources about other popular platforms and age-specific advice about what families should watch for and talk about when it comes to technology safety.
