Head Of School's Message To Parents
Dear Parent/Carer,
Continuing our service to others
In our School assembly today we reflected on Michaelmas Day, the feast of St Michael, which falls on Sunday 29th September. There are many legends and traditions based around Michaelmas, but it has now come to represent the beginning of Autumn and the shortening of days. It is also a time associated with Harvest, as it coincides with the gathering in of the crops and the distribution of food to the needy of the community. This is timely, as we will be celebrating our Harvest Festival on Friday 11th October. Next week we will be asking you to donate an item/s of food that can be passed on to the needy of the parish and our own School community.
Next Thursday 3rd October, we will be having a cake sale after School to raise funds for the MacMillan Cancer Support Trust. If you are able, we are asking you to donate a cake/cakes which can be sold on the day. These should be brought in from Tuesday but fresh items should be brought in on the day. The event will be run by the Chaplaincy team but the PFA will be helping and will be available to meet with you to talk about their work. The PFA have some exciting things planned for the year ahead and they could do with your help.
A new place to pray
For the past 5 months or so we have been developing an outside chapel and reflection area for the School. I am pleased to say that this will soon be completed. It will provide a sacred space for children, classes and staff to spend in prayer, quiet reflection and for various services and liturgies. The Chaplaincy Team have played a large part in developing this project and I would like to thank them all for their great work. More on this to follow…
Black History Month
To begin Black History month, we have arranged for workshops and assemblies for KS2 called, ‘Show racism the red card!” which will focus on the importance of recognising and celebrating diversity and difference. Whilst we recognize Black History Month UK as an important national celebration, we do not restrict ourselves to just teaching this important topic in the month of October. At St Charles, we continue to review our curriculum to ensure that it accurately reflects the diversity of all the cultures that make up our community and the world. As such, there will be opportunities for all children to take part I during the year. There will also be a special Caribbean School meal served next Thursday. See below.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their support in making St Charles the successful and happy school that it is.
Regards
Tony Lynch
Head Of School
Caribbean lunch
To celebrate the start of the Black History Month on Thursday 3rd October, we have arranged a special Caribbean lunch for the whole School.
We would like all pupils to take part in this special, themed lunch, including those pupils who usually have a packed lunch. We have served this meal before and it proved to be very popular!
Please let your child know about this special lunch. We will send more details next week.

KS1
- Why was John upset?
- Why did Jesus say it was ok for the man to continue to heal people?
- The man was doing Jesus’ work. How can we be more like him today?
KS2
- Why did John try to stop the man healing people?
- John said, “He is not one of us”. How do you think this made Jesus feel?
- What is the reward that Jesus speaks of? What would you have said to Jesus after he had said this?
- How has this reading inspired you? What can you do today to get the reward Jesus offers?

Attendance
This weeks attendance award goes to 3H with 100% attendance.
This weeks punctuality award goes to RA with 5 minutes lost.
We are working towards achieving 96% attendance this academic year. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring that your child attends School each day and by not booking any holiday during term time. Please be aware that holiday leave in term time cannot be authorised. There is strong correlation between good attendance and good progress. So together, let’s give our children the best possible chance of reaching their potential.
School Photographer
The photographer will be taking the children's photographs in school on Wednesday 16th October.
He will be taking individual and sibling photographs. Please ensure that your child is in full and correct school uniform that day, as they should be every day!
Long Service Awards
Huge congratulations to Mr Lynch, Mrs Allen and Mrs Lander who all received their long service awards from the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea! They have worked in the borough and at St Charles for over 20 years each! Thank you for your wonderful and dedicated service to the community of St Charles.
Gardening
We have been making the most of the lovely weather to work in the garden planting bulbs. We can't wait to see our garden full of colour next spring!
If you are interested in finding out more about the PFA, or would like to join, please speak to Sophie in the office.
