This week...
We have settled back into our school routines really quickly this year, and it's been great to walk around school and see so many happy and settled children enjoying their learning!
It was wonderful to invite sports coaches in to provide class sessions on Monday, and deliver a very popular after-school football club; and to begin our sessions with the Diocese of Leeds Music Service on Thursday. See our Twitter/Facebook accounts for further photos!
In addition, we are excited to be launching Bookshare Breakfasts in the very near future. Read more about these below...
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Our new School Council
Congratulations to our newly elected St Joseph's School Council:
Della, Hannah, Olive, Aoife, Spencer, Lacey, Sophie
This week, we held our first meeting and assigned our roles and responsibilities within this important team. The children learned first-hand about the values of democracy, respect and tolerance and what it looks like in practice!
We are all very excited to see what they will help us to achieve this year.
Bookshare Breakfasts!
We are delighted to announce that we are shortly going to launch Bookshare Breakfasts on a Friday morning, before school!
This will be a lovely time, when you are invited to come in and share a book with your child, with members of our staff, whilst also enjoying a slice of toast and juice! Siblings welcome.
We can't wait to begin these, so please watch this space for further details... !
Diocese of Leeds Music
The Diocese of Leeds Music service came into school this Thursday to deliver singing sessions across school!
Our children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are already looking forward to next week's session!
If you know anyone starting school in Sept 2025, please share our poster below:
Message from the Police
North Yorkshire Community Messaging allows members of the public to register to receive alerts, crime notifications and community news from North Yorkshire Police, this also includes businesses and schools within our communities in Selby to sign up to. This allows us to create an appropriate list of contacts and be able to reach out to you with crime prevention advice, this is a free service, and the information comes to your email only. There are no text messages pinging away all day and night.
Please feel free to sign up as a school or personally on the link below or scanning the QR code.
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 95.7%
We are pleased to report that our attendance this week is ABOVE National Average.
Thank you so much for your support with this - it has such a positive impact on our children!
This week, we have been learning...
St Nicholas Class (Nursery)
In St Nicholas our topic has been Harry and his Bucket full of Dinosaurs. The children have used a range of resources to stick a dinosaur face. They have coloured dinosaurs in the mark-making area and had lots of fun building dinosaur land with the small world resources.
St Francis Class (Preschool / Reception)
St Francis’ children have started their phonics and their drawing club this week! Everyone has made a fantastic start, with so much enthusiasm for their leaning. We have been finding about where Tadcaster is on a map and thinking about the kind of houses that we live in. We’ve also spent lots of time outside, and building on our learning about God’s wonderful world by making nature portraits and hunting for mini-beasts; Two of our favourite finds were moths (in cocoons) and ladybirds!
St Bernadette Class (Year 1/2)
"I have called you by your name, you are mine." Isaiah 43:1
In RE this week, St Bernadette's made name tags to remind us that God has chosen us and called us by our very special names!
St Patrick Class (Year 3/4)
In English, we have been LOVING reading and writing about the Princess and the Pea. We wanted to get a deeper understanding of it so did some physical theatre of natural obstacles the prince might have encountered on his quest to find a princess. This one links to our Geography topic as well. Can you guess what it is?
St Therese Class (Year 5/6)
This week in St Therese, we were able to follow up last week's science work on the life-cycle of flowering plants and saw that seeds planted in cotton wool germinated. This surprised many of us as we thought seeds needed soil to grow. Now we know that they only need water to germinate but soil to become healthy plants.
