Autumn Edition
Art with Ms. Beebe
Fall is my favorite time of year, especially in the art room! Kindergarten students have been working on their basic art skills such as cutting, gluing and painting. We are now starting to talk about primary and secondary colors, and your kiddos are impressing me with their color knowledge! Grade 1 artists are currently working on dinosaurs in the city, inspired by the book If the Dinosaurs Came Back. I have to admit, their scarecrows have been my favorite project so far! Artists in Grade 2 just finished their STUNNING 3D pumpkins. We are now talking about what an election is, the importance of voting, and they are creating their own Statue of Liberty! We have a talented group of artists here at Woodland School, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us!

P.E. with Mr. A.
Hello Woodland Families,
K-2 students at Woodland have been busy in P.E. class learning about soccer and frisbee. During our soccer unit, students learned soccer skills (juggling, dribbling, and passing). They also participated in small-sided games. The weather was great, so we were able to get outside a lot for class.
Our next unit was frisbee skills and games. Students learned the backhand and forehand throws, as well as catching skills (alligator catch and lobster claw catch). After practicing these skills, we participated in a variety of frisbee games such as Frisbee Bowling, Kan Jam, and Disc Golf!
We also learned about conflict resolvers in class to settle disagreements. We use the game Rock, Paper, Scissors to handle these situations. We use this tool from time to time and combine it with fun, fitness warm-ups.
Currently, all students in Kindergarten - 2nd Grade are participating in a Bowling unit. When we return from Thanksgiving break, we will be starting a unit on Basketball skills.
During each class, we always spend time talking about our Woodland CARES and how to show good sportsmanship! This month we have really focused on being respectful in class and what that looks like and sounds like in the gym during P.E..

STEM with Mrs. Brown
In STEM we've left outer space and come back down to Earth! We've spent the last few weeks talking about changes that happen during the season of fall. Students across all grades have learned how and why leaves change color, and we're currently exploring how animals prepare for winter in fall through migration, hibernation, and adaptation.
