February 2020 e-Newsletter
Happy February, Rainiers!
Greetings Columbia Crest Families,
The cold and wintery weather is here, but at school, we are warm and working hard. Happy February! The new semester begins January 30th and we are dedicated to assessing what we have accomplished and what we have left to do during the last half of the year.
During the mid-year it is a great time to replenish your child’s school supplies. New or gently used gym shoes are welcome as our supply is being used. Sizes 4, 5, 6 and 7 for boys and girls are the most requested.
This is the time of year we typically see an increase in flu. You may want to consider washing your child’s backpack, lunchbox and coat over the weekend as one more way to help prevent the spread of germs.
Remember to dress your child appropriately for our weather. Indoor recess will only take place when extreme conditions happen. Please have an extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack. If possible, please send your child to school with gloves or mittens. It would be wonderful for him or her to keep a set in a cubby to allow them to be used during each recess. We are requiring all students wear a coat to recess. The temperatures are too frigid to wear t-shirts only outside at this time. Finally, please, consider sending a tube of chapstick with your child as we’ve seen a lot of chapped lips lately.
Respectfully,
Principal Shew

100th Day of School February 13
Counselor's Corner
I am so excited to be back at school and see all of our students and families after our Winter Break. Everyone has been working so hard to get back into our routines. I wanted to make sure everyone was aware I am now at Columbia Crest full time, which means I am here every day. My schedule is changing from monthly lessons in the classrooms with your students to weekly lessons to practice important social skills and continue to learn about our character trait of the month as a school. Our character trait for February is acceptance and diversity where we will focus on how we are similar and different in many ways in our classrooms and in our school, but we can respect and accept other people even if we don’t have everything in common. Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 17-21st and I have some things planned for students to do in our building. Look for some more information to go home if you and your families want to get involved in that national celebration as well. I lastly want to note my being here every day also means I have more time to support individual students and do small groups, so if you feel your student needs support from me in some way, please feel free to reach out!
