KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
We had the kickoff of the Northwood Foundation supported Boosterthon week. The Boosterthon team point person that will be on campus in the coming days is Emma Haywood or as the students will call her, Electric Emma. She led a team of Booster members in getting the students and staff excited about the work this year. They held a quick kick off in the gym yesterday and will connect with classrooms between now and the Fun Run on Friday, March 22nd. It sounds like the admin team may be running the track in inflatable costumes again this year if the goal is met.
Families are welcome to come to campus to watch their child/ren run during their class run time on the 22nd. Please see emails from homeroom teachers about specific timing. Families can go straight to the big field in the back of campus – there will be Foundation members there to assist as needed. There will be no lunchtime visitors that day as lunch schedules will be adjusted to accommodate the running times. We are very thankful for all the Northwood Foundation does to support our students, thank you in advance for supporting this event.
Lots of green was seen in our halls today! I hope all families enjoy a Happy St. Patrick’s Day weekend; sending happiness and good fortune, today and always.
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker
SECOND GRADE EXPLORERS
We are so excited that three of our Second Graders were celebrated for their academic achievements and unique talents during the Yes, I Can Award ceremony! We are incredibly proud of how hard these students have worked over the course of the school year, and how much they have inspired others. Our school's mission statement recognizes how students strive to be their best through a passion for learning. We are so thrilled to have such hardworking 2nd graders who represent and embody that statement, including the three wonderful students pictured here.
THIRD GRADE EXPLORERS
Third Grade got to experience a ballet this week! In addition to the ballet, we also paid attention to the pantomime (sometimes called just mime). This is the art of using actions or gestures and facial expressions without words as a means of communication. It plays an important role in ballet, as it helps the audience better understand the story and what the characters are feeling. They were a great audience and loved attending this Fulton County sponsored field trip!
BOOSTERTHON IS BACK!
We were excited to kick off our Northwood Elementary School Fun Run this past Thursday. Our goal is to raise $38,000 for school-wide enhancements and to strengthen our school community.
Our school has always relied on fundraising to provide exceptional opportunities to enhance student learning and we need YOUR HELP registering your student(s) and sharing with friends and family. REGISTRATION IS OPEN on MYBOOSTER.COM.

GET READY FOR GEORGIA MILESTONES
What can I do to help my child prepare?
Be certain your child gets plenty of sleep and has a healthy breakfast.
Be certain your student is at school on time, so they are not worried about being late.
Remind students that cell phones and smart watches will be collected and stored in the secure testing room during test administration times. It’s best for students to leave them at home if possible.
Please have students bring their fully charged device every day.
Get information and practice using this link: Georgia Milestones Resources (gadoe.org)
Experience the online testing session. See below for more details, and use this link: www.gaexperienceonline.com
What happens if my child is absent?
- There will be rolling make-ups throughout the testing window. Please do not send your child in if they are sick.
Can visitors be in the building?
- During GMAS testing, we will not be allowing visitors in the building before 11:30 am; and there will also be no lunch visitors these days.
Georgia Experience Online
Georgia Experience Online is a practice site that can be used for students to learn more about the structure and content of the Georgia Milestones Assessment, experience online testing, and practice using online testing tools. Parents are welcome to explore this site and use to practice with your child.
Please note that the EOG Test Practice site will have ELA and Math questions while the EOG Study Guide for Students and Parents only focuses on Math and Science (5th grade only).
Below you will find an attachment with directions and the link to access the site. Please contact your child’s teacher or our CST, Danielle Evangelista if you have any questions.

STUDENT SUCCESS SKILLS STUDENT INVENTORY
The Student Success Skills Inventory is used to measure student growth across Student Success Skill standards as a result of ReThink Ed lessons. Students complete the inventory by indicating if they almost always, always, sometimes, or never apply the skills being taught in the areas of Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Competence, Collaborative Problem Solving, Reflective Learning Strategies, and Sense of Belonging. The SSS Inventory is about 15-20 items and is administered to students in the Fall and Spring. It takes about 15 minutes to complete. Students complete the SSS Inventory using the Illuminate platform.
- Spring Inventory Administration: April 8, 2024 – April 12, 2024
If you have any questions about the SSS Inventory, please contact your school’s Student Success Skills Champion. Parents can choose to opt their student out of the inventory. To opt out, parents must submit a written request to the school principal.

SHOE US THE LOVE!
Northwood Elementary PTA presents, Shoe Us the Love! This year we set multiple goals to contribute additional efforts toward sustainability as well as caring and sharing. Our Caring and Sharing Chair, Kim Maloney, along with our VP4, Jennifer Porter, researched, scheduled and developed a plan to achieve both goals by way of our shoe drive.
Beginning March 18th, bring gently worn, used, or new shoes to our collection area at Northwood in the front lobby. Not only will this project increase donations for our Northwood Explorers and staff, but it will also support underdeveloped countries with an everyday need, shoes. But wait, that's not all! Reusing the shoes also keeps them out of a landfill thus supporting our very own Earth! We look forward to all the excitement this project is going to bring and as always thank you for your continued support!
