New Goochland Elementary School
Families,
By now, families should have received communication regarding the opening of the new Goochland Elementary School. This communication details our new elementary zones and the process for families of rising 4th grade students (and their siblings) who wish to remain at their current school for the 24-25 school year. Below are a few important reminders:
If you are unsure if your address is zoned for the new GES for the 24-25 school year. You can find out here: https://www.myschoollocation.com/GCPS_Rec/
Per policy, when changes in attendance areas are approved by the School Board, students who are enrolled in grades kindergarten through fourth grade during the year for which changes are effective will be required to attend the school in the attendance area in which they reside and to which they are assigned. Students who are enrolled in fifth grade during the year when changes are effective may choose to continue to attend their current elementary school.
Please refer to policy JC for information related to school attendance zones and certain exceptions. The policy is linked below.
Rising 5th grade students and their siblings need to submit an out-of-zone form by February 1, 2024 indicating their intention for the 24-25 school year. Transportation will not be provided. This form is linked below.
Our elementary school principals are working together to make this transition as smooth as possible for our students and families. We will be in touch with activities, meetings and other plans to support this transition very soon!
Please feel free to reach out if you need support during this process.
Sincerely,
Melissa Reams
