📚 Fun & Learning at DCJA! 📚
Grade 4 Explorations!
Throughout the month of May, Ms. Brenton's Grade 4 class has been very busy! From growing mystery plants to building robots and putting off plays, the students have learned lots and had loads of fun! Keep up the great work, Grade 4's!
Grade 5 Medieval Day
As part of their study of medieval times in Social Studies, the Grade 5 classes participated in Medieval Day on Monday, April 29. Students had piles of fun dressing up, debating and even having a friendly tournament of jousting! It was a great day of learning and engagement.
A special thank you to Ms. Herridge & Ms. Marshall for helping plan this exciting day for their students!
Grade 5 French Cafe
As part of the Grade 5 French Program, students planned and carried out a unique cafe experience throughout the month of May.
Each grade 5 class prepared decorations, menus, and delicious food items to serve the other grade 5 class, all while immersed in the French language! It was a fun and yummy activity that engaged students in the French culture. Great job, Grade 5's!
A special thank you to Ms. Flight for putting together this fun activity as well as the families of Grade 5 students for helping provide the yummy treats!
Willy Wonka Fun in Grade 2 & 3!
Ms. Grandy's Grade 2 class and Ms. Ward's Grade 2/3 class have been busy reading the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory throughout the month of May. To finish off their unit, they enjoyed a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Theme Day complete with headbands, a movie, and chocolate, of course!
STEM Day!
The students were fantastic representatives of our school and we are very proud of them. They took on the challenges and did their best, winning 3 awards in total!
Awards include:
- Best Airplane Design
- Best Bridge Design
- Best Design in the Egg Drop Challenge

A special thank you to Ms. Farrell & Mr. Sellars for providing students with this wonderful experience, as well as the staff and students of PJHS for hosting this event.
Lions Club Junior Speak Off
On Tuesday, May 14, some Grade 5 students of DCJA participated in the Lion's Club Junior Speak off, hosted at the Marystown Lions Club.
Speaking on a variety of topics, these students were excellent ambassadors of our school and we are very proud of them!
Rebecca Evans walked away with the 1st place prize of $75.00, while Evan McGrath took the second place prize of $50.00 and Isabella Gaulton received the third place prize of $40.00. A special shout out to the other participants, Elliott Slade & Kylie Jacque, for their participation as well.
Thank you to the Marystown Lions Club for providing our students with this opportunity.
Volleyball Team Building!
The Volleyball teams at DCJA have had a successful year of learning and playing the game of volleyball. Their hard work and dedication during practice and games is admirable for such young players!

Thanks to everyone who rolled up their sleeves to help make the outdoor spaces at DCJA more beautiful!
📅 Upcoming Events 📅
Friday, May 17 - No Classes!
Teachers and staff will be participating in Professional Learning, therefore there will be no classes for students.
Monday, May 20 - Victoria Day Holiday
There will be no classes for staff and students due to the Victoria Day Holiday.
Wednesday, May 22 - Elementary Popcorn Day
Elementary students can purchase popcorn for $1.25. All orders must be placed on RYCOR by noon on Tuesday, May 21!
Monday, May 27 to Friday, May 31 - Scholastic Book Fair
The final Scholastic Book Fair of the year will take place from May 27 until May 31. Family night will take place on Wednesday, May 29 from 6 PM - 7 PM. Please note that this will be a cash only event.
May 29 & May 30 - Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser
Students at DCJA will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraising Initiative. This fundraiser helps empower students to build healthy habits for a healthy lifestyle as well as learn about the importance of giving. All proceeds raised will go directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation!
Please note that ALL students will participate in this event during their regularly scheduled Physical Education class, therefore registration for the event is not mandatory. However, students who are registered will be entered to win prizes! Please register through the DCJA Jump Rope for Heart Event Page!

As the 2023-2024 school year nears an end, some School Council Members will be finishing up their term as School Council Members.
On behalf of the entire school community, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to Shauna Billard, Stacey Labour & Desiree Whyte for their invaluable contributions to the School Council over the years. Their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to improving our school has made a significant difference in shaping the experiences of our students, staff and school community as a whole.
In the Fall of 2024 we will be accepting nominations for new School Council Members. If this is something that you are interested in, please contact the school in the Fall!
