The fourth grade had the opportunity to celebrate after their Move-Up ceremony with a signing of yearbooks across classes, making even more memories at Tawanka!

The PTO purchased yard signs (photo above) for all 4th graders as part of their graduation gift. They held 3 distribution sessions at the school, but we still have quite a few left! If you did not pick one up for your 4th grader, you may come to the office during our normal office hours, 8 am - 4 pm until June 29th. No need to call in advance, just come to the front door and ring the bell!

Trimester 3 grades will be live in Home Access Center (HAC) at the end of the day Wednesday, June 16th.

Kindergarten registration has been ongoing since January, 2021. If you need to register your child, don't wait! Classes are filling up fast!

2021-2022 Supply Lists are available online now! There is one list per grade level. There will be no individual supply lists per teacher. Click the link below. Happy sales hunting!

Save the date! Kindergarten Orientation will be held on August 31st. Mr. Palmer will send an email over the summer with detailed information once it gets closer.

Miss Moore’s kindergarten earned our Superkids badges! We have finished the Superkids and are officially part of the Club!

Mrs. Neff's Kindergarten class made special thank you letters to show their appreciation to the office staff.

First-grade recently explored a science unit about the Engineering Design Process. Students learned all the formal steps of the process, and the importance of sticking with a challenge even when it gets difficult, or when we face failure. As a culminating activity, Mrs. Rydzewski's, Mrs. Reichert's & Mrs. Curtin's students were tasked with designing and building the tallest tower possible with a limited number of spaghetti and marshmallows. They rose to the challenge, practiced problem solving and stamina, and had fun too!

During Morning Meeting, C106 friends learned about self-affirmations. Self-affirmations are phrases that you say to yourself about yourself. We divided up our white boards into thirds and wrote under the headings, “I am,” “I can,” and “I have” and brainstormed our own affirmations. Self-affirmations can be said to yourself all throughout the day. They help to build your confidence just like exercising helps to build your muscles. We then created a “wordle” using all of the words we used to describe ourselves. Some examples include: I am creative. I have kindness to share. I can solve math problems.

Thanks to the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Tawanka students are using brand new tennis equipment to finish out the school year. The USTA was nice enough to give us hundreds of dollars worth of rackets, balls and other items. Tennis is a fantastic sport for people of all ages. Go to usta.com to find a program for you.

Please visit your child's Summer Reading Course on their Canvas dashboard. Here you will find a virtual reading library from the Sora app filled with great books for all ages. At the bottom of the page, you will find video tutorials explaining our Summer Reading Challenge, how to use Sora and a recording of our Parent Summer Reading Kickoff. There are a few papers to be printed for your child to log their reading and complete a few writing activities. You can also print from the link below. Starting on Friday, June 18, the free "grab and go" meal program for children will continue with an expanded summer schedule. Meals can be picked up on Tuesdays between 11am - 1pm and on Fridays between 11 am - 1 pm. The Friday pick-up will cover the weekend days. The distribution locations are:

• Carl Sandburg Middle School
• Herbert Hoover Elementary School
• Poquessing Middle School
• Tawanka Elementary School
• Meals will continue to be provided free of charge for all children under the age of 18 (no family income limits or application required) throughout the summer.
