A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome, Thomson families, to a month filled with exciting learning opportunities and heartwarming celebrations!
This February, our classrooms will be buzzing with excitement as we celebrate Valentine's Day with classroom parties, special crafts, and heartfelt messages. And don't forget, we're reaching a milestone! On Thursday, February 6th, we will be celebrating the 100th Day of School! Get ready for some fun-filled activities and exciting celebrations as we mark this special day.
We encourage you to connect with your child's teacher to learn more about upcoming classroom activities and events. You can also stay involved by attending school events, and joining our Parent-Teacher Organization.
Let's make February a memorable month at Thomson filled with learning, joy, and a strong sense of community!
Warm regards,
Andrew Criswell

Kindergarten Round-Up Appointments π
Can you believe that it is already time to start thinking about next year?! We will begin taking appointments for Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025. If you have a child or know someone with a child who will be in Kindergarten next year, please be sure to call our Thomson office and make an appointment at (810) 591-0911.
Kindergarten Round-Up for all Davison Elementary Buildings will take place at Thomson Elementary April 21st - 25th.
If you have younger children at home we wanted to make you aware that we are now starting the waiting list for Early-5's. Our Developmental Kindergarten program is for children that will turn 5 between June 15th and December 1st. This is an excellent program to prepare young children for kindergarten. It is a full day program that focuses on kindergarten readiness. To add your child to the wait list please call the Thomson Elementary office at (810) 591-0911.
**As a note, our current Developmental Kindergarten (DK) students do not need to make an appointment as your child(ren) are already completely enrolled as Davison students. As always, please do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions.**
πΏβοΈπDressing Warm for Recess!βοΈπ§£π§€
- boots
- snow pants
- hats
- gloves or mittens
Make sure to write your child's name inside their winter gear. This helps prevent items getting lost at school.
Please help your child remember to bring their gear for recess every day. Some families choose to pack their gear in a separate bag from their backpack. I recommend working with your child to check their bag every night to make sure they have both gloves and boots, as well as the rest of the gear, in their bag. By getting it ready at night you'll have an easier time getting out the door in the morning. If your child is wearing their boots to school, please make sure to pack shoes to wear during the school day. It is also helpful when parents help their children learn to dress themselves in their winter gear. Our young students in particular can struggle with this and it takes practice. We appreciate your help!

πππ Birthday Celebrations!! πππ
Just a friendly reminder!
As part of our ongoing efforts to promote healthy and inclusive celebrations, we kindly request that non-edible items be considered for birthday celebrations in the classroom.
Opting for non-food items helps accommodate various dietary preferences and ensures the well-being of all our students. Popular alternatives include small stationery items, bookmarks, or classroom supplies.
We appreciate your understanding and support in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all our students.

Fun to Be Fit! β½ππ
It has been a snowy and cold month for our Thomson Teddies! We've had a snowy and cold month here at Thomson! We are a little behind because of the snow days but we will begin bowling before our next intersession. As we head into February, please remember that tennis shoes are required to actively participate in class. This also helps with preventing injuries related to tripping. As we get closer to Valentine's Day, the students will engage in some themed activities, including building snowmen out of sport equipment! Please use your intersession time to get outside and build a real one for yourself! Remember a body in motion stays in motion.
- Mrs. Lints
STEM π₯οΈ
This month in STEM class, we will explore the story of "Tacky the Penguin." This delightful tale celebrates individuality and how being different can be a strength. In the story, Tacky uses his unique qualities to save his friends.
Inspired by Tacky's resourcefulness, the students will put their engineering skills to the test! They will use building toys called Brain Flakes to design and construct hiding spots for their own penguins. Additionally, they will practice their learning through engaging kindergarten games on websites like PBS Kids (.org) and ABCYA (.com).
Happy Engineering!
Ms. Lockrey
Library π
Itβs February! This month, we'll be reading books like "My Mouth is A Volcano" by Julia Cook, where we'll practice self-control with "magic" bubbles. We'll also read "Bad Kitty Does NOT like Valentineβs Day" by Nick Bruel. Another book we'll enjoy is "Should I Share My Ice Cream?" by Mo Willems. Inspired by Gerald and Piggy's ice cream sharing, we'll create and share our own paper ice cream creations. We'll end the month with "Armadillo Tattletale" by Helen Ketteman.
Please have children return their books the following week after check-out so others can enjoy them as well.
