New Technology Pages on SDSL’s LibGuide
Two new technology pages have launched on the South Dakota State Library’s LibGuide under the “Library Technology Coordinator” page.
The first is a “Digital Literacy Guide,” which provides librarians with information and resources on important computer and internet skills and working with patrons or students and technology. As the world around us becomes ever-more technology-focused, libraries act as important hubs of technology use. Libraries today have a critical role not only in providing appropriate access to the technology tools that their patrons need but also to the digital literacy skills to use those tools effectively and responsibly.
The second is the “Standard Library Technology Equipment and Emerging Technologies” page. These are not supposed to be an exact list of all technology that libraries need. Instead, it’s a guide to help libraries begin to provide appropriate access to technology and the internet. When considering any technology for your library, keep in mind the unique needs of your community as well. Talk to your school district, city and community leaders, and patrons or students to help determine what technology the library could offer that would best support your community.
If you have questions regarding digital literacy or library technology, please contact the SDSL's Library Technology Coordinator, Cheyenne Chontos, at cheyenne.chontos@state.sd.us.
