FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
With the start of August next week, the school year is rapidly approaching. This naturally stirs up mixed emotions. There is an undeniable joy that comes with the summer months, particularly here in New England.
Nonetheless, I hope you'll share in my excitement for the start of the 2023-2024 school year. After all, there is much to be excited about! Facilities updates including fresh paint in select locations, brand new windows in the elementary school wing, and new student furniture in select classrooms has brought a fresh appearance to our school.
Furthermore, we're welcoming four new classroom teachers and two new specialists to our already exceptional staff. You can read more about their experience and credentials, as well as the experience and credentials of our entire staff, in the letter sent to families here.
Lastly, earlier this week the school sent families updated policies and procedures for student formation and discipline for the 2023-2024 school year. These updates are the fruit of the work of our discipline committee made up of teachers and staff from across the grade levels. It is rooted in feedback from recent family surveys, the practical experience of our teachers and staff, and wide research on student behavior. Overall, the goal of these new policies and procedures is to balance student expectations with appropriate, clear consequences to serve our mission of providing a safe, caring, and nurturing environment in which students can grow to become both saints and scholars.
As part of these new initiatives, and as described in the previously sent document detailing these new procedures and policies, we will be holding our first annual Teach Day for students in grades K-8 on Wednesday, August 30th from 8:30am-11:30am. As detailed in the previously shared Calendar Brief for Families, this will occur as part of the already scheduled Orientation Day on August 30th.
A few quick notes regarding our Teach Day, with additional information coming soon:
- The Teach Day on August 30th will run from 8:30am-11:30am.
- Students may arrive between 8:15am and 8:30am and should report directly to their homerooms.
- There will be staff and volunteers greeting and directing students to their appropriate entrances/rooms.
- Dismissal will begin at 11:30am. Please note, buses will not run on the 30th.
- Students are not required to wear their uniforms.
In addition, please note that pre-kindergarten orientation will also be held on Wednesday August 30th. There will be two sessions (8:45am and 9:45), and additional information regarding orientation, including your family's assigned time, will be sent soon!
