A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families and Staff,
Welcome back to another edition of the EHTHS Weekly! Here are some updates we are excited to share with all of you.
Our newly formed "Jazz Improv Class" had the honor of performing at the esteemed New Jersey Music Educators Association (NJMEA) conference last Friday under the direction of Mr. David Milnes. Additionally, our Jazz Band, "The Happy Accidentals," hosted EHT's first jazz band competition, where five bands from across the state participated. Thanks to the band boosters for all their help and Dr. Kadetsky for his guidance and functioning as a clinician for the event.
A special thank you to the Interact Club for their help in setting up, serving and cleaning up at the Remembering Jamie Foundation. Mr. Cresenzo, the fundraising organizer, said “The students worked so hard and were a pleasure to work with”.
Special congratulations to our Academic Challenge Team for placing 3rd in Oakcrest's Brain Brawl! Keep up the excellent work!
This week, our JROTC cadets had a memorable experience on their Avionics Tour of JBMDL (Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst). Special thanks to Sgt. Llufire and Spc. Rodriguez from the NJ Army National Guard for organizing this insightful trip. Our cadets were able to see Blackhawk Helicopters, Operations, and Aviation Life Support while witnessing life in the Army National Guard.
On Wednesday, Mr. Bell's African American classes gave a presentation on Black History Month to the preschool children. The little ones learned about Maya Angelou, Dr. King, Jackie Robinson, and Simone Biles just to name a few. They also learned how to double dutch and they even learned some dances like the Cha Cha Slide. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to share knowledge and spread awareness.
Please join us for our first annual "Take Your Family to School Night" on Wednesday, March 6 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the High School. Families will be able to explore the daily lives of our students and participate in various engaging sessions. See the flier below for more details and CLICK HERE for information on the sessions provided.
Don't miss out on the College Fair at Stockton University on March 13th. Sign up for the bus transportation through your counselor's Google Classroom and seize this opportunity to explore higher education options.
Get ready for some jazz and razzle dazzle as our Cast, Crew, and Orchestra present Chicago: Teen Edition from March 7th to March 10th. Tickets are available now at ehths.booktix.com. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door. Send a Cast, Crew, or Orchestra member a candy gram. Here are the students involved in the production. We hope to see you at the show, and all that jazz! Let's support our talented students!
Calling all Football Parents! The Football Booster Club will host their first meeting of the 2024-45 season on Monday, March 11th, 5:30pm in the High School Lower Cafeteria. We would love to encourage all existing or new Football parents to attend to hear about our plans for a very exciting 2024 Eagles Football Season! If your child is considering playing football this year, or has played in the past, and you haven’t checked out the Booster Club-now is your chance! Go Eagles!!
Congratulations to Cami Bird for winning the Region South at the 114 lbs weight class and Kylie Wright for placing 3rd at 126 lbs. Best of luck in the finals in Atlantic City this weekend!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Upstanders of the Week
Student Name: Jah'King Williams
Nominating Staff Member: Mrs. Bell & Mr. Duttweiler
Jah'King has been a stellar student in math class this year. He participates regularly, is kind to his classmates, and works hard in class everyday. We look forward to seeing Jah'King in class everyday! He deserves to be recognized for his efforts.
Student Name: Lizandro Parada-Lopez
Nominating Staff Member: Lara Subbotin
A student from one of the self contained classes came into our supplemental study hall to do some work. This student was clearly not in a great mood and had clearly been having a rough day. Lizandro talked to the student to make him feel welcomed. Then worked with him on his math work. Lizandro was able to cheer up this student and put him in a much better mood for the day.
International Championship of HS A Capella (ICHSA)
For the first time ever, an ensemble from EHTHS competed in the International Championship of HS A Capella (ICHSA) and placed 3rd out of 7 in the quarterfinals held at Cherry Hill West HS.
The audience and judges alike were entertained and impressed with aChoired Harmony’s performance!
Thanks to our Director Mr. Richard T. Tinsley II for adding this dimension to our students’ arts-education.
Tournament of Bands Indoor Association Jazz Band Festival
A Swingin’ Friday Night for the Arts in EHT part II!
After arriving home from their appearance at the NJMEA Conference, EHTHS hosted its first ever Tournament of Bands Indoor Assoc. (TIA), Jazz Band festival as our students were joined in friendly competition by the Jazz Ensembles from Ventnor MS, Galloway Twp. MS, Kingsway HS, Pennsgrove HS and Barneget HS!
The students accomplishments were enjoyed by their peers, the audience and the judges alike! Special thanks to our Jazz Band Director Mr. David Milnes for organizing the event and thanks also to Band Director, Mr. Matt Wyckoff and the EHTHS Band Boosters for supporting this first-ever endeavor for our Arts Dept.
World Cultures
Exploring the impact of pandemics through history in Mr. Hackney's World Cultures class! We engaged in a unique simulation to understand the spread of diseases like the Black Death and created infographics to delve into pandemics' roles as potential threats to humanity.
Honors World Cultures
Students in Mr. Martirone's Honors World Cultures classes simulated the Columbian Exchange and the different goods, items and commodities that were traded with string. By the end of class students were entangled with yarn and understood how globally interconnected our world has become since 1500.
Academic Challenge Team
The Academic Challenge Team placed 3rd in Oakcrest's Brain Brawl last night! We are so happy to be having a great season! I attached a photo of the students who attended.
AP Art History
Diving deep into ancient Egyptian culture in Mr. Hackney's AP Art History class with a creative twist! Our students crafted documentaries exploring the art and science of mummification, blending historical research with hands-on learning.
Photography Digital Design
In photography/digital design, Ms. Cleaver's students have been studying portrait photography. While exploring formal, candid, environmental, and conceptual portraits students also experimented with taking apart their own self-portraits and putting them back together again. They really got creative with this assignment, check it out!
Thespian Society
Members of our Thespian Society as well as the cast, crew and musicians of our upcoming production of Chicago spent the day in a workshop with Broadway actor, Andrew Kober. Most recently Andrew was seen and heard in the Underworld as Beetlejuice!
Special thanks to Thespian/Crew advisor Mr. Kevin Mccafferty for facilitating Mr. Kober’s visit and thanks also to Mr. Guenther and Mr. Kristeller’s for hosting this meaningful workshop!

CLIMATE AND CULTURE
#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
