Summer Book Study
This summer our annual book study will be Most Likely to Succeed: Preparing our Kids for the Innovation Era. by Tony Wagner & Ted Dintersmith. It will be a Google Classroom study, lasting six weeks (beginning June 3) , and will provide 7 hours of C&I professional development - there will be the occasional TED talk for the extra hour. We will provide a book to each teacher who agrees to follow the study through to the end. (You will be allowed to make-up one week for vacay plans.)
Deadline for your response in order to be provided a book is this Thursday, May 9.

May 29: Newcomers and Content Based Language Support (9:00-12:00 QISD Events Room)
Experience and explore communicated, scaffolded and sequenced CBLI (Content-Based Language Instruction) methods tailored for Newcomer Emergent Bilinguals. Through rich discussion, district exemplars, and guided practice, you will walk away with a blueprint for leveraging CBLI Instructional Methods to specifically reach your Newcomers .You must use this form to RSVP We must have 10 attendees for Region 10 to come and present. If the session does not make, you will be notified.
June 5: Handle with Care Initial Training (8:00-4:00)
We will be offering Handle with Care summer training for employees who will need verbal and physical intervention methods for their teaching assignments.
We ask that Life Skill, BASE, and Administrators attend. Campus principals will also recommend those on their campus to register. Training will be held at the PRIDE campus (423 Panther Path - behind AG shop)

June 5-6: GT Foundations 1 & 2 (8:30-3:30)
Region 10 will be hosting GT Foundations 1 & 2 training in Quinlan ISD from 8:30-3:30. Teachers teaching GT or Honors courses are required to have 30 hours of GT training. Foundations 1 & 2 must be done face to face. The remaining hours can be done online. Registration: June 5 - part one, June 6 - part two
June 12 - Handler with Care Refresher (8:00-12:00)

June 20: 5th Grade - High School Math District Alignment Day (8:30-3:30)
All QISD math teachers in grades 5-12 are encouraged to attend the district alignment day. Region 10 will be leading the training and helping to align problem solving strategies, vocabulary, and overall math skills with the end goal in mind. Registration: Click Here
June 19: 3rd-6th Grade Science Alignment & New TEKS (8:30-11:30)
All science teachers in grades 3-6 are encouraged to attend the 1/2 day science training with Region 10. Region 10 will be reviewing the new TEKS, the transition year, and what will be covered on the STAAR tests for 2024-2025. Registration: Click Here
June 19: 7th - FHS Science Alignment & New TEKS (12:30-3:30)
All science teachers in grades 7-High School Courses are encouraged to attend the 1/2 day science training with Region 10. Region 10 will be reviewing the new TEKS, the transition year, and what will be covered on the STAAR tests for 2024-2025.Registration: Click Here
July 16 - Empowering Excellence for Gifted Learners: GT 3 hour update (8:30-11:30)
Region 10 will be hosting a 6 hour GT update. Any teacher teaching GT or Honors that has the 30 hour training is required to do a yearly 6 hour update. This dynamic session focuses on exploring what our students want and need to learn, and how we can empower them to take ownership of their own learning journey. Pre-assessments gauge student readiness and allow individual differentiation, ensuring that each student receives instruction tailored to their abilities and interests, making learning more accessible and meaningful for all. We will explore innovative teaching methodologies for delivering engaging lessons and discover practical strategies for making learning more student-centered, differentiated, and appealing. Together, let's empower our students to become active participants in their own educational journey!

July 16 - Screen Wisdom: Cinematherapy Lessons to Learn for Teachers -GT 3 hour update (12:30-3:30)
There has been much discussion about the value of utilizing cinematherapy with gifted students, but what about their educators? Thoughtfully chosen film and television media will provide concrete examples of gifted characteristics, stereotypes, and parenting issues, and will expose educators to common social-emotional traits and atypical populations of the gifted that may not be identified in their local community. July 22-23 - Reading Academy - K-3 Gen Ed, K-3 SPED, & K-3 Admin. (9:00-4:00)
House Bill 3 (HB 3), passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in June of 2019, requires all kindergarten through third grade teachers and principals to attend a "teacher literacy achievement academy." All K-3 teachers, including special education teachers, and principals are required to attend the HB 3 Reading Academies. This will be for any new hire that has not completed Reading Academy in grades K-3.
July 25 - Science of Teaching Reading Make & Take (9:00-4:00 at Cannon)
General Education and SPED teachers in grades K-3 are invited to attend our Science of Teaching Reading (Reading Academy) make and take. This training will be designed for teachers to make resources for their classroom based on the strategies of good reading practices. Activities will be created and ready to use in the classroom. Join us for an interactive session where we'll explore resources within TEKS RS, refine annotation techniques, and practice crafting stellar responses to ECR/SCR prompts. Write Right for Beginning Writers with TRS
What should writing look like in my classroom? What are instructional best practices I can begin implementing week 1 of school that align with TRS writing expectations? Come explore all this and more as we find out how interactive read alouds, mentor texts, and an understanding of the developmental stages of writing can set our young authors up for success! This session was previously titled “Write Right in K-2” but could also include beginning writers at any grade level and/or students who score beginner in TELPAS.
Back That Thang' Up: Using Evidence to Support Constructed Response Gr 3-8
The new writing demands of the state assessments will require students to construct short responses to text-based questions. Students’ ability to clearly answer the questions asked and select the best text evidence to support their responses will depend on the number and quality of opportunities they have to practice these vital skills. In this session, participants will gain an understanding of the new STAAR assessment requirements for constructed response questions, learn strategies to create text-based questions based on the TEKS and help facilitate students’ abilities to compose written responses that provide appropriate text evidence.

911 ECR Emergency Gr 3-8
Preparing students for the rigor of standardized tests can be daunting, especially when trying to equip your students with the essential skills needed to excel on the STAAR test's Extended Constructed Response (ECR) items. This session aims to alleviate the challenges by offering practical strategies, valuable insights, and collaborative activities designed to empower teachers with the tools to provide direct, explicit instruction that guides their students toward writing exceptional ECRs. Join me for a hands-on, interactive workshop designed to enhance teachers' expertise in effectively teaching ECR writing.

The 411 on EOC ECRs
The Extended Constructed Response (ECR) on the English 1 and English 2 End of Course (EOC) exams set expectations that incorporate text analysis and evidence-based writing that is foundational to students' college readiness. In this session, participants will review strategies to promote text-based thinking before getting "the 411" on how EOC writing expectations align with various college-readiness standards. In order to inform instructional practices around writing, participants will take a deep dive into rubrics and samples of student writing craft. In this interactive workshop, participants will engage in reading and writing experiences that will foster authentic writing growth for increased success on EOCs and beyond.
