AP Capstone with Mr. Huggins
Our AP Seminar students have begun research for their first performance assessment, the Team Multimedia Presentation and Individual Written Report (IRR). Teams are collaborating to draft their research questions, learning each other’s strengths, and setting group norms. They are conducting preliminary research on various perspectives related to topics like modern warfare, student work/life balance, and the ethics of placebos. Each student will write an IRR and synthesize their findings into a multimedia presentation.
AP Research students are finalizing their research questions and completing their Individual Research Proposals for approval by our Internal Review Board (IRB). They will implement research on diverse topics, such as the impact of the new cell phone policy on learning, lobbyists’ influence on environmental policy, and healthcare services for the homeless. We look forward to seeing how our students contribute to the current body of knowledge.

They connected geometry to molecular charges and trends in data resulting from bonding forces. In lab, they investigated chromatography to determine the type of bonding in unknown substances.
History Department
AP World History with Mr. D'Bernado
To prepare for the 2025 College Board AP Exam, Hoboken High School's 9th Grade Advanced Placement World History students are exploring a range of "Big History" topics. Units one and two covered China's Song Dynasty, the "Pax Mongolica," and Dar al-Islam.
Students are enhancing their critical thinking skills through competitive AP skill review exercises, timed writing competitions, multiple-choice contests, poster outline essay races, and vocabulary challenges. Recently, they engaged in team-building activities focused on pacing, communication, and collaboration, reflecting on how these exercises illustrated collaborative academic learning.
Math Department at Hoboken HS
Statistics with Mr. McKenzie
In statistics class, students are exploring different ways to display statistical data, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots. For a hands-on activity, they created a "living" box plot by lining up according to their sleep times along a timeline.
This visual helped identify important data points, including outliers and the median sleep time, highlighting that the class could use more rest.
Culinary Arts at Hoboken HS
Culinary Arts Classes with Chef Nelson
Culinary Arts students took a trip to Melick's Town Farm in Oldwick. We learn about the history of the family farm. The farm is run by the 3 siblings who are 10th generation to own and run the farm. They are also the largest apple growers in NJ.
We operated a traditional apple cider press, learned about various apple varieties and then picked our own apples to bring back to school.
Enviormental Science Club at Hoboken HS
Students in the Hoboken High School Environmental Science Club conducted a biodiversity survey at the newly opened Reservoir #3 in Jersey City’s Pershing Field Park.
Enjoying perfect weather, they used a dichotomous key to identify various trees, including yellow birch, chestnut oak, and sugar maple. They also investigated water organisms and collected samples for microscopic analysis.
Early Childhood Education Highlights
Wallace Preschool Wildcats
Students also worked on Purple Ribbon Week and Digital Citizen Week. They learned how to be safe on the internet and the importance of peoples differences. The class also focused on learning a new shape: squares! They are getting excited and gearing up for Halloween and can’t wait to start celebrating!
Preschool at 770 Jackson
All of the children are so excited and enthusiastic to be taking part in the drive. We thank all of the children and families for participating and helping to make this school year a memorable one!
Preschool at Brandt School
In Ms. Nicole’s Preschool Class students talked about the life cycle of pumpkins. They used fine motor skills to cut, paste, and sequence the cycle. The class also created dot art pumpkins and matched and counted pumpkins. They welcomed a new friend to class and are showing all the great things they learned such as how to follow directions and participate in class.
Students are loving the art center to practice their drawing skills as well as the dramatic play center where the students love taking care of the babies and setting the table for the family.
Preschool at Calabro
They examined the inside and discovered that there are seeds inside and that the pumpkin is wet to the touch. Students smelled the pumpkin and discovered it didn't smell like a pumpkin pie, but that the pumpkin insides can become a pumpkin pie.
Preschool at Connors
After getting a chance to look at them closely, the children did some leaf rubbings. Creating leaf rubbings allowed the students to see the beauty of something as simple as the small leaves on a tree. Each one unique in shape, color, and texture. Their art work will be hung in the Science Area so they can refer back to the project throughout Fall.
Preschool at Jubilee
The children saw multiple colors inside the leaves and realized that these were fall leaves. They also counted the number of different colors they saw. What an amazing science eye activity.
Preschool at St. Francis
After the students picked their pumpkin they each were able to use markers and stickers to decorate them.
ECE at Brandt School
The class took a poll and asked the children how long they think it will take for the apples to turn brown once they are cut. After tallying up the votes, the excitement began! Once the apples were sliced, the teachers took out a timer and the children monitored the apples. It turns out, it takes approximately 10 minutes for enzymatic browning to take place. The children really enjoyed this lesson.
ECE at Wallace School
Pumpkin exploration and the TOTM family theme have been recent topics in Wallace Class 104. The class started their pumpkin exploration by reading non fiction books about pumpkins. As a TOTM learning facts story lab the class read Scholastic News My Big World with Clifford, Parts of a Pumpkin, Oct. 2022 issue. After reading, the children drew pictures of the pumpkin facts they learned. The hands-on learning took place when they carved a giant pumpkin together as part of a Science Eyes activity. Before carving the pumpkin students made observations and guessed how many seeds were inside the pumpkin. Once it was carved students used their sense of touch, sight, and smell to explore the pulp and seeds. They drew pictures of their observations. Later on, the class counted the seeds by groups of 10.
Students continue to build play skills though developing their TOTM family theme. The teachers also integrate this theme throughout other learning activities. During a math activity: Remember and Replicate, the children used their fine motor skills, working memory, and self regulation to create a family meal out of playdough-spaghetti and meatballs. Well, actually it was just two spaghetti and one meatball to be exact! Either way they did an excellent job and had fun doing it!
Preschool at Rue
What an amazing month of October it has been in Ms. Sophia and Ms. Basma's classroom. The class read "Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?" and was introduced the story extension activity. Students practiced Science Eyes by examining their pumpkins they picked at the Pumpkin Patch Activity in the Rue gym.
Students had a great time picking their pumpkins with friends and family. Each student was able to tell the teachers what the inside of the pumpkin felt and looked like. In honor of the Fall season, students "fell in love with learning" by painting beautiful trees using paint dabbers. It is going to be a great year filled with more fun activities in room 101!
