Principal's Message
Dear Sequoia Families,
I wanted to make you aware of two important topics concerning RVUSD. First, the district is moving toward a 24:1 model for all TK-6 grades. This means that over time, all classrooms from TK to 6th grade will be 24 students to 1 teacher. Here is an FAQ sheet to give you more information.
Please read the following message from Dr. Roehrick, district Superintendent:
You may have recently heard that Santa Rosa City Schools has applied for a State and Federal waiver to forego mandated State testing this school year. Their reason for doing so is due to their loss of three weeks of instruction because of the October’s wildfires. The filing of the waiver and actual permission to waive the testing requirements require approval from both the State and Federal Departments of Education. There is no guarantee that either department will grant the district’s request.
The Rincon Valley Union School District will not seek a similar waiver. We believe the State tests provide valuable and accurate information for how our students are doing. The information we receive is critical for assisting our teachers to better serve our students and to measure the effectiveness of our instructional programs. While we lost two weeks of instruction, we took advantage of the State’s flexibility and pushed back the testing window two weeks this year. In addition, our teachers have spent a great deal of planning time to restructure instruction in the wake of the fires to ensure our students have been provided with the key instruction needed to be successful at their next grade level. We believe its important that our families understand our commitment to provide exceptional instructional programs begins with our willingness to be accountable to our families and greater community. Should you have any questions, please contact your child’s school principal.
Tony Roehrick, Ed.D.
Superintendent
If you have any questions about either of these topics, please be in touch.
Mrs. Clark
