"The Lion Heart Experience"
Please join us at the Swan Valley Performing Arts Center next Wednesday, October 23rd at 7 pm for a community performance from the touring company "The Lion Heart Experience".
Specializing in worth-infusing performances and speaking in schools nation-wide, Joe Vercellino and the Lion Heart Crew create waves in the world of education by placing the spotlight on identity and worth. Through masterful original music from the city of Detroit
alongside visual-art and a powerful narrative; Joe and The Lion Heart crew show how both worth and identity are the core influence in everything from school violence, bullying, teen anxiety/depression all the way to high teacher turnover in schools and issues at home.
Throughout the year, Joe and The Crew travel, speaking and performing in schools and
conferences as The Lion Heart Experience; a school assembly designed to infuse young
people with a sense of self-worth and purpose.
With strong themes of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), mental-health awareness, drug,
alcohol and suicide prevention, The Lion Heart Experience has significant impacts on both
preventing and alleviating teen-anxiety in schools nation-wide.
Congratulations to Cal DeLisle and Sydney Kuhn
for being crowned SVHS 2024 Homecoming King and Queen.

Enjoy the Fall Season!
I hope everyone takes some time and slows down to enjoy the fall season. Too often, we are rushing from one activity to another, and we miss the little moments that make life special. So, take a walk through the leaves and enjoy the crisp autumn air-it will be winter before you know it.
Words from a Cop
Every Sunday during football season, commentators give some off the wall stat about a player, such as “This quarterback has never lost in 40 degree weather.” I find myself wondering who keeps track of those facts. I certainly do not. I have never paid much attention to statistics. Typically, I use this platform as a way to connect the public with police, and give some insight on why police do some of the things they do. Which is why I do not share statistics in my blurbs.
However, statistics are everywhere, even in police work. If one intersection has more accidents than another, where do you think the stops signs, or traffic lights are going to be placed? If a road has more residents and houses, then the speed limit is probably going to be slower than another. Same goes for crime, or in my position, complaints at the schools. If a certain area has more crime being committed, the greater the police presence will be (or should be).
In short, police presence will be less, when the crime is less. Statistics prove it. Same goes for me at the schools. If there are complaints being made at the same place, at the same time, I’m more than likely going to be present at that place at that time. The fix is very simple; stop bringing attention to yourself (I mean generically, not singling anyone out). If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, you are much less likely to see police action.
Stay safe, stay vigilant

Law Day News!
Looking for Law Day volunteers!
Law Day is an event in the spring where a Swan Valley team competes against another school team in a mock trial. We are looking for possible jurors, witnesses, and lawyers. We work with an attorney advisor and there will be some after school time needed to meet and prepare starting in January. It is a great experience at
the Saginaw County courthouse to see a real courtroom and its proceedings.
If interested please see Mrs. Nicholas or Mrs. Wiley.
Notes from the Nurse.....
‘Tis the season…respiratory germs are already on the attack! Influenza and COVID-19 are circulating in our school community with symptoms such as fever, cough, congestion, sore throat and body aches. Keep in mind that these germs can be contagious to others up to two days before the onset of symptoms! Infections from Influenza and COVID-19 typically last 5-7 days, with the first 3 days being the most “miserable” in terms of symptoms. Complications of these infections, such as pneumonia, often affect those with high-risk conditions such as asthma, diabetes, obesity, and chronic heart, liver and kidney disease. Immunocompromised people, such as those on steroid therapy or chemotherapy, are also considered high risk for complications and are more likely to be hospitalized with influenza or COVID.
Anti-viral medications are available to help lessen the length of time one may be ill. These anti-viral medications are most helpful if taken within the first 48 hours of symptoms. Vaccination against Influenza and COVID-19 are the best preventative measures. The Influenza vaccine will protect against 3 strains of flu and is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older. There is good news this season for those with an egg allergy—they too can receive the Influenza vaccine without worry of an allergic reaction! The updated 24-25 COVID vaccine is also recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older. Previous COVID vaccines are no longer used/available. October is a great time to update your seasonal vaccines!! Wishing you a happy and healthy autumn season!
