Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we continue our journey together in educating and nurturing your children, it’s important to recognize the characteristics and behaviors that lay the foundation for their future success, not just in school, but in their careers and adult lives. The habits we instill in our students today will shape them into the responsible, resilient, and successful adults of tomorrow.
Hard work, resilience, problem-solving, and conflict resolution are some of the key traits that successful individuals carry into their adult lives. These characteristics allow them to overcome challenges, take initiative, and navigate complex situations, both in the workplace and in personal relationships. As adults, it is crucial that we model these behaviors for our children. When they see us working hard, staying patient during difficult times, and solving problems thoughtfully, they begin to understand the value of those actions.
In today’s fast-paced world, one important lesson that can sometimes be overlooked is the benefit of delayed gratification. Success rarely comes overnight. By helping our children understand the rewards of patience and perseverance, we teach them that long-term achievements come from continuous effort and not giving up when results are not immediate. This lesson alone can empower them to set and work toward larger goals that will benefit their future.
At school, we strive to support these values in every way possible. But we can’t do it alone. We are grateful for the strong partnerships with our parents and the trust you place in us to help guide your children’s learning journey. Please continue to value the expertise, recommendations, and efforts of our educators. We are here to help, and our goal is to create well-rounded individuals ready to succeed in a world that is often unpredictable. Education truly is the great equalizer, giving each student the tools to rise above circumstances and seize opportunities.
Together, let’s encourage our children to always give their best effort, learn from setbacks, and grow into the confident, capable leaders of tomorrow.
Thank you for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Dr. Sal Flores
Congratulations Mrs. Rivera!
San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) was proud to honor five outstanding teachers who have dedicated their careers to student success in San Bernardino County. This year’s recipients were recognized during a September 19 ceremony held at the Dorothy Inghram Learning Center in San Bernardino.
“Each honoree’s daily contributions are essential to the overall success of our students, schools and communities,” said County Superintendent Ted Alejandre. “It is such an honor to be able to recognize their dedication, passion and unwavering commitment to shaping the future of our community through education.”
Annually, each of the 33 school districts in San Bernardino County select a Teacher of the Year. The district’s finalist then advances to the county-level review. After submitting their application for consideration, a screening and selection committee narrows down several finalists to compete for the title of California Teacher of the Year. The California Department of Education will announce the 2025 California Teacher of the Year awardees in October 2024.
The County’s awardees consistently go above and beyond for their students, inspiring a love for learning and creating positive, nurturing and welcoming classroom environments. Their dedication to education is a true testament to the spirit of the California Teacher of the Year award and sets a shining example for educators everywhere.

College Day is Coming!
On the Thursday morning of October 17th, we will have our 17th annual College Day. This event is part of Corona’s commitment to stay focused on preparing students to be ready for college. All students wear their shirts for the college their class adopted and share college chants. We will hold an assembly of the whole school with a keynote speaker, who will be talking to students about the importance of planning their educational future, so they can make their dreams come true. Student speakers will share their thoughts and dreams of going to college. Guest speakers will also visit classrooms to share their college experiences. After the assembly, a parent workshop will be held in the MPR to inform parents about college requirements and preparation. We will also discuss how our AVID program teaches students organizational and study skills which will help them to achieve at all levels of their education. All parents are invited to attend this special event!

AR at Corona
Each book a student reads is eligible for Accelerated Reader (AR) points. By taking and passing the AR quiz for each book, students collect points. The more points a student earns, the closer a student gets to his reading goals as well as several rewards and prizes. Students can earn up to four degrees, including Associate, Bachelors, Masters and the highest, a Doctorate. If students reach the schoolwide goal of reading 45 MILLION WORDS, students will have a celebration at the end of the year. You can check how many points your student's books are by checking AR Bookfinder.

Eagle Eye on You
This month, we have our Eagle eye on...
Mr. Albert Garcia
Custodian
Hello, my name is Albert Garcia. I’m the newish night Custodian at Corona Elementary School. I’ve been given the opportunity to keep the school clean with my fellow Custodians Mr. Henry and Mr. Noel.
I was born and raised in Pomona, CA. Some of my fondest memories as a kid are going to the
beach with my family to go pier fishing. We would wake up super early to get to the pier as the sun was rising. We didn’t always catch something but it was fun watching everyone wrangle
something in.
In Pomona I went to Garey High School, after that I attended Citrus College. At the time I heard
they had a decent music program. I played flute throughout middle school, highschool, and
some of college. I switched to playing bass because I wanted to play in their Jazz Band. I made
some lifelong friends there. Because of the music program I was able to go to Japan and Hawaii
as the Bassist for their Jazz Band and Top 40 band. In Japan we were able to perform for their
schools in 5 different cities. In Hawaii we were the poolside band in the afternoons and the Top
40 band in their club at the Hyatt hotel.
This will be the start of my eighth year having a service job like this. Before applying to OMSD I
worked at San Antonio Regional Hospital for 6 years. I miss a lot of the people there but it was
time to leave for better benefits. I appreciate the work experience I gained, whether it was the
detailed cleaning done in the Cath Lab or the fast paced area of the Emergency Rooms. Most
patients in the hospital are visiting on their worst days, we did our best to make sure the patients
felt welcomed.
During my time at home I like to play and train with my two dogs. I have two Golden Doodles.
They are the first dogs I raised as puppies. Moana is the sweetest big sister and Coco and the
menacing little sister. As I’m writing this they’re looking at me and pointing to their leashes
asking to go for a walk. I’ve always liked active dogs, they keep me on my toes.
I look forward to coming into work, everyone at Corona has been very welcoming. Thank you
everyone for making it an easy transition.
