Pursue your personal excellence. Find your passion, Find what makes you happy, and create your goals.
On Monday 26th August we were blessed to welcome Mahina Paul back to Te Kura O Te Pāroa. As an esteemed former student and current Olympian, her presence served as an inspiring example for our students. Mahina embodies the qualities of a role model, a wahina toa, and a dedicated advocate for women's rugby. We are deeply grateful for her time and the invaluable opportunity she provided for our students at Te Kura O Te Pāroa. She is an example of a student that has worked diligently to achieve her Tāumata Tiketike. We are so proud of you Mahina Paul.

We now have a new program in the school that monitors students' online behaviour and activity. Please remind your tamaiti that learning experiences set up by the kaiako are there for the purpose of learning. If misuse of the school’s devices or internet activity is reported their devices will be taken from them.
Students are not allowed to bring phones to school. If a phone is required for the student to communicate with their whānau the phone is to be left at the school office.
Phones are not allowed to be used during play breaks, in the classroom, at Kapa Haka practice, or sporting excursions.
If kaiako and staff, see a phone they will be confiscated.
Therefore, whānau I need your help:
- Please check that your child hasn’t brought their phone to kura.
- Please check their social media platforms.
- Please monitor the sites they are going on at home.
Family link is a free app that has been used by a member of staff at our kura. She highly recommends the use of this app for her tamariki. https://families.google/familylink/
Even though most incidents of misconduct online occur outside of school hours and off school premises, the repercussions are still felt within the school community.
By keeping an eye on how your child behaves online, you can help prevent these negative behaviours from occurring.

Science Camp Awesome
Kia ora whānau
Camp Awesome in Raglan last week was a huge success. 16 tamariki and 7 adults were able to attend the Institute of Awesome Raglan residence. This bush setting was perfect for setting our minds into the Putaiao thinkers we needed to be! Thank you to our facilitators Matua Kawana and Matua Maitara for making the bi-lingual, Matauranga Maori camp possible. The three days allowed tamariki to practise team work, communication, engineering, problem solving and creativity skills. Hopefully the camp will reinforce to tamariki how amazing Putaiao is in different environments!. The highlight for many was definitely the glow worms and spotting the kereru outside the dining room. Thank you to our parents and tamariki for the support and awhi and finally getting us there! We are sad to learn that the Camp is closing, but we hope we can bring the facilitators to the Eastern Bay and create our own Camp Awesome in the coming future, so watch this space!

Public Health Nurse
Tēnā koutou katoa,
I would like to introduce myself as your new BOP Public Health Nurse. I will be taking over from our clinical coordinator Susan Jenson who has been relieving this role for the last year. I am very excited to get to know your school and community and hopefully be of assistance helping with your Tamariki’s health needs.
A little about myself – I was born in and raised in the South Island and did some of my schooling in Australia. I did a lot of travelling after school and upon return, decided to study Nursing at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology in Tauranga. I have been residing in the Eastern Bay of Plenty for the last 9 years and feel very much at home here. I love the outdoors especially hiking and surfing. Whānau is very important to me. I have returned to work after being on maternity leave for the past year and am delighted to be taking on new Kuras. I will be servicing Te Kura o Te Pāroa, Te Wharekura o Ruatoki, Tawera Bilingual School, Te Kura o Taneatua, Waimana School, Te Kura
Mana Maori o Matahi and Nukuhou North School.
So what does a Public Health Nurse do? We assist in all things ‘health’ and help to point you in the
right direction. Where you are unsure, we will give you the answer (or stand alongside you on your
journey in finding the answer). We are great at linking you up with the right services and helping to
collaborate a health care plan for your Tamariki. We can also provide certain health assessments
ourselves, routine kura visits, home visits for specific health concerns, early intervention for health
issues and communicable disease information. Part of my role is also to provide vaccination as part of the school-based vaccination program (year 7 and 8s). We work in a big team equipped with our very own ear specialist nurse, hearing and vision technicians, as well as pre-school and adolescent public health nurses. We work for Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) and have the privilege to have
access to paediatricians (specialty children’s doctors) in special circumstances as well as the child
development team which is full of wonderful health professionals who excel in meeting our Tamariki’s needs.
