A message from the Superintendent
Dear D56 Families,
I first would like to thank the entire D56 staff for working together to ensure we had a great start to the school year. It has been a week full of activities at each school to get into routines and overall expectations while connecting with students and setting the stage for learning.
I also want to thank all families for your support and patience during the first days of school. It takes time and effort to get back into the routine with buses, lunches, and the logistics of “doing school” again. It is evident that things go smoother when we can count on your partnership.
As we delve deeper into the school year, we want to share more about the initiatives taken place in the district. One of the initiatives I want to highlight is the Portrait of a Graduate. The D56 Portrait of a Graduate identifies competencies at each grade level that will build a community of students and professionals working on common goals. Embedding these competencies in our day-to-day learning will provide our graduates with the necessary skills to set them up for success in their high school careers and beyond.
This year, our goal is to raise awareness of the seven competencies that make up the Portrait of a Graduate. We will do this by highlighting each competency for a period of time throughout the year. While every school might take a different approach to raising awareness of each competency, the entire district will focus on the same competency for each period of time. The first competency of the year is Effective Communicator.
You can view the Effective Communicator traits for each grade level on the D56 Portrait of a Graduate website by clicking on the icon as shown above. We encourage you to review the traits of an Effective Communicator and have conversations with your child(ren) on what it means to demonstrate those skills.
Thank you again for your support and I hope you enjoy the Holiday weekend.
