Green Meadow Food Services Menu
Click on the link to access the Green Meadow Breakfast and Lunch menu. Type in Maynard Green Meadow and you will see the option to view the Breakfast or Lunch menu for the week. The menus can be translated into other languages by clicking the Google dropdown menu at the top of the page. You also have the option to print the menu. Please work with your child to help them understand the menu options.
All students have access to one free breakfast and one free lunch. Our staff will never prevent a child from accessing either option. If your child has had breakfast at home and you do not want them to attend the breakfast program, please have a conversation with your child. We would like to avoid a scenario where children attend with their peers, take a breakfast, and throw the food out because they ate before coming to school. We appreciate your help in reducing food waste.
An Opportunity for Green Meadow Families to Learn More About Title I
Title I of the Federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act is one of the largest and oldest federally funded education programs in the United States. Federal dollars are provided for supplemental educational opportunities for children who are most at risk of not meeting the state's challenging content and performance standards. To become eligible, schools have to meet federal requirements that are based on economic criteria. No individual student has to be from a low-income family to receive Title I services. A Targeted Assistance Program is one in which individual students in a school are targeted to receive Title I services based upon multiple, educationally related, objective, and uniformly applied criteria.
The two primary objectives through the Title I program are to improve student achievement for all participating children, and to improve parental and community involvement. The Title I grant promotes family engagement and home-school partnerships through a variety of methods and events.
Title I educators work with classroom teachers to support students in small group targeted instruction for literacy, math, and social emotional learning. Title I staff is responsible for providing these services and coordinating with other school personnel as needed. They also educate parents about the program and suggest strategies and materials to support their child's learning at home.
The Green Meadow School will be holding a Title I informational session on September 26, 2024 at 6:30 PM as part of Back to School Night activities. Please contact the school for more information, or if you have any questions.
Early Literacy Screening
At Green Meadow, our teachers have many ways to check your child’s reading development and growth, including an early literacy universal screening assessment. Early literacy universal screening assessments are brief tests that provide information about your child’s early reading skills. Screening makes it possible to see if a student is at risk of developing reading difficulties, including risk of dyslexia. Screening does not diagnose dyslexia or other disabilities, but it does help us understand which students may need additional support to be successful readers. We are required to assess students in grades K-3 at least twice per year consistent with Massachusetts regulation 603 CMR 28.03(1)(f).
Our district uses a screening assessment called DIBELS8 through a platform called MCLASS in grades 1-3, and Earlybird in Kindergarten. Both assessment tools are one of several screening assessments approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Your child will be assessed two or three times during the school year, depending on grade level. It typically takes 30-60 minutes to complete this assessment, and the tentative schedule for this school year is shown below.
Grade Screening Assessment Dates (Subject to Change)
Kindergarten: Week of September 23, 2023 Week of January 27, 2025 Week of May 19, 2025
Grades 1, 2, 3: Week of September 16, 2023 Week of January 20, 2025 Week of May 12, 2025
Following the screening assessment, a team at our school will review all students’ results. Parents/Guardians will receive a family report that provides an overview of their child’s results. If your child scores “significantly below benchmarks,” we will contact you within 30 school days of testing, to discuss how we can support your child.
Please reach out if you would like additional information.
• For questions about the early literacy universal screening, contact Principal Karen Lindquist.
• For questions about your child’s testing results, contact your child’s teacher.
Screening is another step that helps students at our school become proficient readers, and we are grateful for the continued support and partnership with the Green Meadow families.
Due to the new school construction, arrival and dismissal for Grades 1-3 will be done by the Library entrance. We anticipate that construction fencing will be installed over the next two weeks. There will be an access road that wraps around the back of the school starting from the Tiger Drive/Crowe Park side of the building. Staff will be available at the Meet and Greet and on the first day of school to answer any questions. Once the fencing has been installed we will share photos to better explain the changes.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome to the Counselor’s Corner!
The Green Meadow counseling team would like to welcome back all returning families as well as any new families who are joining us … we’re SO glad you’re here! The counseling team is invested in supporting our students socially and emotionally. We also aim to support you, their parents and caregivers. In an effort to strengthen our home-school connection with you, we will be sharing weekly social emotional learning (SEL) resources that relate to timely topics and/or connect directly to the GM SEL curriculum that all of our students are familiar with. Meet our team and learn more about what we do! Questions or concerns? Please contact Julie Danforth at jdanforth@maynard.k12.ma.us.
