HMS Teacher of the Year
Our HMS teacher of the year is Wendy Roddy! ! She is in her 21st year as an educators, and her in her 3rd year at HMS. In her career, she's taught everything k-6 and served as a school librarian. She's been an amazing blessing to our school, and we are so excited that she was nominated by her colleagues for this honor! Send Mrs. Roddy a note of congratulations to waroddy@blountboe.net.
Here are some things her co-workers had to say about Mrs. Roddy:
"From her first year at HMS, she has been a team player. She jumps in committees and grade-level activities. She is always willing to help others or share her knowledge of different topics. It is clear in her classroom setup and interactions with her students that she cares about them and wants them to succeed."
"I selected Mrs. Roddy because she is always reflecting on her instructional practices and wants to ensure that all of her students are consistently making progress. Also, she has a mindset of a life-long learner and is always willing to share her knowledge."
Semester Exam Information
The following information ONLY applies to 7th grade students
7th graders are taking semester exams this year at HMS. The exemption policy outlined in the Code of Conduct explains what attendance and academic requirements are needed for a student to be exempt from exams. At the local school, students can also be exempt for other reasons at the principal's discretion.
Our procedures mirror what is happening at HHS to keep things as consistent as possible. 7th grade students will bring home an exam schedule, the required attendance form, and a notice if the student is exempt and from what exams. This information will not come home until December.
Students will come to school at the regular time each day that they have an exam. They cannot be checked out until the advertised check out time. Students are expected to be at school by the regular time, even if their exam isn't until 9:00. Please read the required attendance form carefully when it comes home.
Sample of Key Chain Collectibles for the $1 Bar Sale!
Christmas Parties
Homeroom teachers will send home information about Christmas parties after Thanksgiving break. Teachers are only allowed 2 adult helpers for each homeroom. Our classrooms are not big enough to invite every parent. If you are interested in serving as a Christmas Party helper, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
October's Golden Apple Winner
Congratulations to Ms. McAvoy!
Coach Clayton passed the Golden Apple to Ms. McAvoy for the month of October. Here's what he had to say,
"“Ms. McAvoy is our Golden Apple Winner for this month! Ms. McAvoy is an advocate for her students. Her students always look forward to visiting her throughout the day and truly have a deep love for her. It takes a special heart for a special education teacher, and Ms. McAvoy is one of a kind!”
