Career Counselor Updates
Recent events:
April 12-16: Ms. Snowden visited 6th grade ELA classes to introduce students to the RIASEC, a career exploration tool that gives students a common, specific language to talk about their strengths and interests. Students were able to identify and discuss their top “themes” and understand why self-discovery is a key step in career exploration.
May 3-8: Ms. Snowden visited 7th grade ELA classes to deliver the RIASEC 2 lesson. Students first made connections between the 16 career clusters to the skills and abilities covered by each RIASEC type. Then, they spent time in Naviance identifying clusters and pathways they want to learn more about.
Upcoming events: 6th and 7th grade students are continuing to try virtual reality career exploration during lunch! May 22, 28, and 29: Ms. Snowden will visit computer science classes to deliver the 8th graders’ last middle school career exploration lesson! Students will focus on time management and how they may need to adjust their current routines to fit additional hobbies and extracurricular activities in high school.

Dresss Code And Accessory Concerns
Parents, as we approach warmer weather, we are starting to see more and more concerns with dress code violations. Please assist us in ensuring our students are following the SMCPS dress code. Thank you for your assistance.
Students must wear clothing that covers certain body parts. Clothes must be worn in such a way that the chest, midriff, pelvic/groin area, and buttocks are covered with opaque material.
Clothing displaying or suggesting profanity; sexual activity through graphic images, words, or innuendos; weapons; drugs/alcohol or drug paraphernalia; violence; or tobacco products may not be worn, visible, or displayed.
Clothing with identifiable gang/crew representation or paraphernalia may not be worn, visible, or displayed.
Symbols or messages generally accepted to promote intolerance, hate, racial slurs (for example Confederate flag, swastika, Ku Klux Klan or KKK) may not be worn, visible, or displayed.
Head coverings may only be worn indoors so long as the student’s face is visible and it does not interfere with instruction or student safety.
Shoes must be worn that are safe for all activities.
Official St. Mary's County Public Schools’ athletic uniforms may be allowed at the discretion of the coach and school administrator.
Student dress for school-sponsored activities must be in compliance with the Student Dress Code.
Summer Food Service
Summer Food Service Outreach: Please help us promote our "to-go" meals for the summer at LHS, CHS, OES, and SRMS offering 5-day meal pick-up on Mondays starting June 10th. Parents must pre-register their children by filling out the form linked below or bringing them to the site when they pick up meals. We will also be operating Lunch and Learn and Lunch at the Library. There will be a flyer for those programs as well. Those programs don't allow meals to leave the premises, so no additional paperwork is required; however, since some parents may not bring their children to pick up these to-go meals, we must have additional information from them. Please post the flyer found in the Summer 2024 Graphics folder below and also link the form to your Weekly Smores. Summer Meals Pick Up Google Form
