Olympic Middle School
Week of June 3-June 7
Good afternoon Olympic families and staff
Another Forest Festival in the books. Even through the rain, the parade and firework show were excellent. I hope everyone was able to get out and do something fun this weekend! It looks like the rain will continue Monday and Tuesday and then begin clearing up as the week goes on.
Our students did a great job with state testing this year. Initial results are filtering in and it appears as though we will have some things to celebrate. We will not have complete and official results until we return in the fall.
A reminder that we will be teaching FLASH this week (June 3-June 7). Each year our 5th and 6th grade students are provided lessons from the FLASH curriculum (Family Life and Sexual Health), developed by the King County Public Health and adopted by the Shelton School District. FLASH is a medically accurate, age-appropriate Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) curriculum that promotes respectful communication and builds skills for healthy relationships. FLASH provides a protocol for teachers when answering student questions about values that includes referring students back to families to learn their specific values. The state outlines required topics by grade level. Our teachers have been informed as to students who have been opted out by their parents and those teachers have found an alternative plan for those students.
Upcoming events:
Senior walk is Wednesday, June 5th with seniors walking through Olympic around 12:55. This is such a wonderful tradition!
Field Day is Thursday, June 6th. The weather looks like it will be nice. Make sure students are dressed for fun field activities.
Help us finish the year strong by making sure students are at school every day! We have many fun end-of-the-year activities happening these last two weeks and we do not want any of our students to miss out!
