Governor's Workforce Board Announces 2020 Real Skills for Youth Grant Solicitation
The Governor's Workforce Board has released a Grant Solicitation for Real Skills for Youth partnerships on Thursday December 5, 2019.
The purpose of this Grant Solicitation is for qualified organizations to form strategic partnerships to develop and implement high-quality paid work-based learning experiences and college and career readiness programming for youth in Summer 2020 and academic year 2020-21. The goal of the Real Skills for Youth program is to prepare youth for success in college and career through meaningful career exposure and exploration of potential career paths and their on-ramps, skill-building with an emphasis on essential and professional skills, and supported work-based learning experiences that allow participants to apply learning in a real-world setting.
The Real Skills for Youth program, started in 2018, builds off the long-standing Summer Youth Employment program to enhance and scale work-based learning opportunities for youth, and more tightly connect work-based learning to year-round work readiness programming, by supporting partnerships among schools, youth-serving organizations, industry, and others.
Applications are due on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 2:00pm.
Awardees will be announced in April 2020.
Awards will be made on a competitive basis consistent with the terms of the Grant Solicitation.
A pre-proposal conference will be scheduled for Wednesday, December 18, 2019 10:00am to 11:30am at the Department of Labor and Training Room 73-1. Attendance is strongly recommended; please send no more than two representatives form your organization and RSVP to julissa.polanco@dlt.ri.gov.

Young Adult Roundtable: Programming Favs and Flops
What makes a teen program a hit and what makes a program a "flop"? Join fellow young adult librarians to share your most impactful programs and discuss why some programs just don't seem to meet our goals or engage our teens. Please be prepared to share a recent program that was a success, as well as a program that "flopped" so we can collectively think about how to rework it into a "fav."
