GMAS Information
Hello Talley Families,
GA Milestones for grades 3-5 will begin April 22-April 29th (make-up days April 30-May 3rd). The following site will give your child excellent exposure to how the assessment is set up and allow them to practice at anytime they want: https://www.gaexperienceonline.com/
Please keep in mind that it is imperative to get your student to school by 7:40. Testing will begin promptly at 8. Make sure they have a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. The school does serve breakfast from 7:20-7:40. If your student is late, they will be unable to go to their class until testing is completed for the day; therefore, getting them here on time will help them have less disruptions in the course of their day. I truly appreciate your support! Let's have an awesome testing window!
Mrs. Mosley

CSD Extra Mile Award
Students: Do you know a teacher or CSD employee who has gone "the extra mile" this year? Nominate them for the CSD Extra Mile Award! The Extra Mile Award is an annual award that allows students to show appreciation for the teachers or staff they feel go above and beyond what is expected of them.
Students (not parents) at any grade level can write an essay describing how their teacher (or staff member) goes the extra mile (parents can help younger children write the essay). The essays should be detailed and describe how the employee goes above and beyond.
Click here to submit a nomination. Students can also find the form any time via LaunchPad (it’s the purple icon labeled “Extra Mile Award nomination”).
The deadline is May 31, 2024.
These awards will be presented at the CSD Opening Day Celebration in July.

It's Time to Step Up for Teachers and Staff!
Looking for a way to show your CSD teachers and staff some extra appreciation as the school year comes to an end? DEF provides students and parents with an easy way to do this! Through the month of May, we will be running the Step Up campaign. Anyone who would like to express appreciation for a CSD teacher, administrator, or school support member can go to www.stepupforteachers.com, give a small donation, and leave a short note of gratitude. DEF volunteers will deliver your sign to your home for you! Have a graduating senior? Choose the "Congratulations!" sign instead!
Let’s cover Decatur in signs of support for our CSD teachers, staff, and graduates!

Live Thrive Kids Day this Saturday, April 20th, 9am - 12pm
This Saturday, Live Thrive will host a Kids Day at their new location on Columbia Drive, two miles south of Talley.
In addition to providing sustainability education, they operate the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM). The current CHaRM location is downtown Atlanta, but in June, the new Columbia Drive location will begin accepting materials.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about sustainable practices, as well as have fun with a petting zoo, arts and crafts, and trying out musical instruments.

Celebrate Earth Day with the Fruitful Community Foundation
On Saturday April 20th, there will be a Green LIbrary Tour at the Chamblee Library in Dekalb in celebration of Earth Day, and would love to have Talley students and their families attend!
This library has had their outdoor space converted to a productive urban landscape that does not need mowing or leaf blowing, pesticides, or petrochemicals to thrive and grow plants that are good for the environment, pollinators, and people!
For this event we are partnering with the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots and Shoots Program which provides micro-grants of $250.00 to people ages 0-99 who want to become change makers in their communities and neighborhoods.
There will be a storytime to kick things off, followed by a tour of the new landscape, an arts and crafts activity and a feedback session.
