Dashing Thru December
December 2024
A Note from the Principal
I can hardly believe we are already Dashing Thru December! It has already been such a fantastic year. We are so thankful for the amazing students and families that we are blessed to work with! Thank you for sharing your kids with us!!
Please take a look at our December Days. We'll be having a "Winter White Out,", festive sock day, winter hat day, ugly sweater, and, of course, a movie and PJ day! Check the link above for all the dates.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Holtz
Winter Recess
As the weather continues to drop and we prepare for the potential of snow, please keep the following in mind:
- Recess is held outdoors as long as the real feel is 10° or higher.
- Students can ALWAYS use encouragement to wear their coats, gloves, and hats outside.
- It's a good idea to write your child's name in his/her personal belongings.
- When snow begins to fall, students will need both boots and snow pants to go off of the concrete during recess.
As we the weather turns colder, we do have more indoor recess days due to the colder temperatures. We are currently brainstorming some options for students to pick from. If you have any indoor games you think would be ideal for indoor recess we'd welcome any donations.
5th & 6th Grade Winter Band Concert & More
If you have a student in band, please mark your calendars for Thurs., Dec. 19th at 5:00 pm. Students will showcase their hard work for you in a winter concert.
Band Solo Opportunity: Band students are encouraged to prepare and perform a solo at the middle school's Solo & Ensemble Festival! Sign your student up HERE
Library News & Info
A Note from Mrs. Sutton
Last month we spent a lot of time learning about countries and cultures using the CultureGrams database. Students did a wonderful job on their travel posters and brochures. Be sure to ask your student about the country they researched, there are some fun facts out there! We also practiced our problem solving skills by breaking out of a digital breakout room.
As the snow starts to fall, please make sure that students are transporting their library books separate from their boots and other wet clothing in their backpacks. If you have any questions regarding missing or damaged books, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at msutton@solon.k12.ia.us.
