A Note from Mrs. Colangelo
Dear Sonoran Foothills Community,
As we step into the second quarter, I am excited to share all the wonderful things happening here at Sonoran Foothills School! This time of year is packed with opportunities for students to learn, grow, and connect with our community.
In winter sports, we are thrilled to kick off volleyball and cross country seasons. Our athletes are already training hard, and we’re excited to cheer them on throughout the season. We are especially proud to host a cross country meet on November 13th here on campus—what a great opportunity to showcase our school spirit!
For our middle school students, we’re gearing up for our Color Run for grades 6-8. It’s going to be a vibrant, fun-filled event that builds school spirit and camaraderie.
Looking ahead, we’re hosting a Kindergarten Preview Night on November 6th where incoming families can learn all about what makes Sonoran Foothills a special place to begin their educational journey. Priority open enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year opens this week and will close in December. I anticipate SF will be at capacity next year, so I strongly encourage and recommend if you do not reside in the Sonoran Foothills boundaries that you apply for open enrollment as soon as possible to help work to guarantee a spot.
We’re also preparing for some of our biggest annual events, including the Veterans Day Parade, a special tradition where we honor and thank those who have served our country. Additionally, our Luminary Night promises to be a magical evening, lighting up the school grounds and bringing together our entire community.
On the academic side, we continue to focus on positive behavior through our TRACKS expectations. We will be holding a TRACKS Assembly in November to celebrate students who have exemplified Trustworthiness, Respect, Accountability, Creativity, Kindness, and Safety. Their hard work and positive behavior make our school a better place every day. We look forward to continuing our partnership with you during these exciting events.
Thank you for your continued support in making Sonoran Foothills a thriving school community!

DVUSD Bond and Override
Sonoran Foothills Families,
There are just days left to vote in the upcoming election which includes two important measures relating to our students, school, and school community.
In the last election in November 2023, only 9% of our DVUSD parent population turned out to vote. I encourage you to ensure your voice is heard by casting your vote by Tuesday, November 5th.
The two important measures relating to our school community are:
Special Bond Election to fund items such as safety, security, instructional resources, technology, building renewal, and buses.
Continuation of the existing 15% Maintenance and Operation (M&O) override. These funds (approximately $33 million over three years) will no longer be available after December 31, 2024 unless approved by voters in the upcoming election. The M&O Override funding supports: Maintaining Class Size, Free Full-Day Kindergarten, Athletics & Arts programs, Specialized Programs for students (Gifted, STEM, Language Immersion), 8% of all DVUSD employees' salaries, Counseling, Nursing, Literacy, and Instructional Technology.
Please visit the District website for more information on the DVUSD Bond and M&O Override. For questions regarding the election, visit dvusd.org/election.
I also want to remind you that the DVUSD District Office (20402 N. 15th Ave., Phoenix 85027) is serving as a ballot drop-off and polling location through Election Day.
