Principal's Corner
Miles Mustangs,
We have reached the last month of school! I am proud to have served you this school year and for the past three years. My decision to relocate back home and leave this wonderful community still brings a mix of emotions. Thank you for the many well wishes, hugs, tears and smiles. I cherish them all.
In the last weeks of school, there are many events planned. The carnival kicked us off. Thank you, PTO! We have concerts, art displays, promotion, a dance, and many, many classroom end-of-the-year presentations and parties. Please check out this newsletter for all the dates and times. We certainly hope to see you attend as many as you can.
Mustangs, set your expectations high. If you believe you can reach it, you can achieve it!
Counselor's Corner
Merry May Marvelous Miles Mustangs,
What a wonderful year it has been! I want to start off by saying how incredible it was to see all the creativity of your kindness displayed throughout the whole school for Miles Bingo; from countless kindness notes, to some of the funniest puns I've ever heard, it was amazing to see how infectious kindness can be. I hope you all had a blast completing some of the tasks on your card.
Shout-out to Paloma Gasque for completing a blackout on your Miles Bingo card! Way to go, Paloma! Completing every square on the Bingo card must have taken some serious dedication and creativity. We appreciate the energy and positivity you bring to Miles. Be sure to swing by the counseling office soon to claim your prize!
Let us take a look at all we have learned this year:
We have grown in Respect, Empathy, and Cooperation.
● We have learned strategies for resolving conflict to build stronger connections.
We have grown in Responsibility, Perseverance, and Courage.
● We have learned focus strategies, goal setting and we have tried new things!
We have grown in Gratitude, Honesty, and Creativity.
● We have learned how to name our emotions and practice emotion regulation strategies.
For the month of May, we are closing off the year with Kindness. How can we color our world with Kindness? It is about what we DO to make the world a better place. It is acting with understanding, generosity and care. Here are some fun kindness activities you can do with your students:
PK/Primary (PreK-2nd): Kindness Chain - Each student adds a link to a paper chain describing one kind thing they did. Watch the chain grow throughout the week :)
Intermediate (3rd-5th): Compliment Wall - Students write anonymous compliments or affirmations for classmates and post them on a "Kind Words" wall.
Middle School (6th-8th): Kindness Challenge Cards - Students draw daily kindness challenge cards (e.g., "Invite someone new to sit with you," "Write a thank-you note") and reflect on their experience in a class journal or discussion.
Let's finish off the year strong and have an amazing day!
Warmly,
-Mr. Alex
P.S. Happy Principal Appreciation Day Mrs. Steele. You are an incredible administrator to work with and we all wish you the best as you embark on your new adventure!
Garden News
Our final Garden day was as lovely as can be - gentle weather, sweet people, and multiple projects completed. What stood out at this particular workday was how calm everything seemed, volunteers finding ways to help and to just enjoy the garden.🌻
Thank you Mrs. Steele, Beth, Josi, Celeste, Kendall, Sophie, Jennifer C., and kids for stepping up!
The main Secret Garden bench has a fresh coat of paint, to help it last many more years and be more comfortable now. Chicken Bingo has a washable, reusable board for chickens to poop on this coming weekend plus future Miles carnival years. 🐔
Winter veggies went home with volunteers plus bagged up for middle school classes I'm helping with this week. Shrubs and succulents got good drinks of water too.🪴
Extra sweet was conversations with parents, kids feeding and playing with chickens, and kids making bouquets of flowers to take home. It was a great morning. 🌸
Take care,
Anna
